Cachar Admin issues strict directives for govt officials ahead of Panchayat election

way2barak, April 19: With the State Election Commission of Assam officially notifying the much-anticipated Panchayat Election 2025, the Cachar district administration has swung into action to ensure a smooth and seamless electoral process. The Panchayat polls in the district are scheduled to be held on May 2, 2025, while the counting of votes will commence from May 11, 2025.

In view of the ongoing preparations, the District Election Officer and District Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a strong directive emphasizing the constitutional obligation of all government officials and polling personnel drafted for election duties. The administration has made it unequivocally clear that performing election-related responsibilities is not merely an administrative assignment but a mandated constitutional duty.

The directive reiterates that officers and staff from various departments who have been deputed to serve in different election cells must discharge their responsibilities diligently and without fail. Any lapse, negligence, or dereliction of duty will not be taken lightly. The order specifically warns that violations will invite strict disciplinary action under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and relevant Service Conduct Rules. Such action may include issuance of show-cause notices and even suspension by the concerned controlling authorities.

This stern reminder from the District Election Officer underlines the seriousness with which the administration is approaching the Panchayat Election 2025. It is a clarion call to all involved in the electoral machinery to uphold the democratic fabric by ensuring the free, fair, and peaceful conduct of polls in the Cachar district.

This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
