Cabinet Ministers Ashok Singhal & Ajanta Neog arrives in Silchar, takes part in many programmes
Ministers hand over cheques to Covid widows in Silchar
March 25: Minister for Urban & Housing Affairs, Irrigation & Guardian Minister of the district Ashok Singhal and Minister for Social Welfare & Finance Ajanta Neog, who are on a two-day visit to Silchar, reached here on Friday.
During his visit, minister Singhal inspected an water supply project under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Udharbond and inquired about the details of the project. Thereafter, he inaugurated an office building of the assistant executive engineer, Udharbond sub-division (irrigation) in the presence of MLA Udharbond, Mihir Kanti Shome, MLA, Lakhipur, Kaushik Rai, MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty and Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli.
In his speech, minister Singhal said the government is committed towards the development of farmers in agricultural sector and 1000 solar operated hand pump sets are being distributed to the farmers. He instructed the officials of the department to complete their work within a short period of time. The minister expressed hope that the developmental work of Udharbond will be continued in the future.
On the same day, the minister also inaugurated a water resource project under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Bhorakhai Grant. Delivering his speech, minister Singhal said 182 families will get benefits from the project unveiled on Friday. He said piped water connection to every household had received scant attention in post-Independence India. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is changing the landscape rapidly.
“The PM announced has about the Jal Jeevan Mission and vowed to cover 100 per cent of the households with tap water connections. I thank the Prime Minister and our beloved Chief Minister for their endeavour in this direction” said guardian minister Singhal. The Minister further stated that Modi is cognizant of the hardships that millions of women undergo every day for fetching clean drinking water. Women have to walk several kilometres and dedicate their entire day to get a bucket full of water. “It was this modern-day cruelty that Modi vowed to eradicate,” minister Singhal added.
Singhal also inspected an water resource project under the Atal Mission Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation scheme in Ghungoor at SMC&H. Later, Singhal and social welfare & finance minister Ajanta Neog handed over cheques to 16 Covid widows, each of Rs 2.50 lakh at the conference hall of the Cachar deputy commissioner’s office in Silchar.
Minister Ashok Singhal and Social welfare & Finance Minister , Ajanta Neog also officially launched “coffee table book” by Cachar administration on the occasion. It is pertinent to mention that this book basically reveals the aims and objectives of ” Axom Adarxo Gram Yojana villages,” the changes brought in the living standard of the households of the remotest areas of Cachar District by transforming into Model Villages. The Book also reflects the activities that have been taken up in various villages including future road maps.
The Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal urged that this kind of Coffee table Book should be published in an interval for wide publication of the Government initiatives and for making people aware of the benefits that can be availed. The Ministers, Ashok Singhal and Ajanta Niog also reviewed the ongoing schemes with the officials of the various departments. DDC,Rajib Roy,CEO, Zilla Parishad Cachar and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem and Senior Planning Officer, planning and development ,Branch ,Ruli Daulagupu also attended the meeting.
