Another death on 8 May: Covid +ve lady from Tarapur dies at SMCH
May 8: On Saturday, another death was registered in Silchar. With this, 2 deaths were recorded in Cachar district on 8 May. Jyostna Chakraborty, a 54 years old female from Tarapur, Silchar with history of travel from Kolkata one week back prior to admission, known hypertensive, was admitted on 26 April at SMCH with fever and shortness of breath for two days.
She had 77% oxygen saturation and was admitted in ICU . She was diagnosed as a case of Covid pneumonia . During her period of stay, she had to be put on noninvasive ventilator for many days on failure to maintain oxygen via face mask. She was severely anaemic too. She also developed AKI with sepsis during her stay. Ultimately, she expired on 8 May at 8 pm.
Earlier during the day, another Covid Positive person breathed his last at SMCH. A 60 year old male Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan from Panchayat Road in Silchar was suffering from cough and sob for last 4 days. He was also diabetic & hypertensive and was on medications when admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on 3 May.
Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiyan was diagnosed to be a case of Covid pneumonia. Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert informed that the patient presented with Sp o 2 of 63 % on oxygen was initially admitted in ward but later shifted to ICU. He had to be put on Non invasive ventilator on being unable to maintain oxygen and had to be intubated today and put on mechanical ventilator. However, all efforts to save him failed and ultimately, he expired at 6.00 pm on 8 May.
