BVVBDF celebrate World Blood Donor Day in a befitting way
June 15: Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood products.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered A, B, & O blood group system” and won Nobel Prize for it. Along with the other parts of the globe, the day was celebrated in a befitting manner by the Cachar district committee of Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum (BVVBDF). In this connection, a voluntary blood donation camp was organised at Goldighi Mall, Silchar. BVVBDF was collaborated by Rupam Cultural Organisation and Lions Club of Silchar Greater in organising this camp.
With due permission of the authorities and maintaining all advisories related to COVID-19, the camp was organised by the Forum, which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli by lightning the lamp. She also offered floral tribute at the portrait of Karl Landsteiner. On the occasion, Cachar District Committee of BVVBDF also launched a video on its activities which was released by the distinguished guest Padmasree Dr. Ravi Kannan. The occasion was also graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattavan.
A total of 22 persons including 3 women donated blood in the volantary blood donation camp at Goldighi Mall. The 1st time donors were also felicitated by the organisers.
A host of individuals associated with voluntary blood donation were present during the day, which include Dr. Kumar Kanti Das, Arindam Bhattacharjee, Nikhil Paul, Ashu Paul, Dr. Manoj Kumar Paul, Karunamoy Paul, Debabrata Paul, Dr. Subrata Nandi, Shikta Paul, Sabyasachi rudra Gupta, Sujoy Nath, Shibam Das, Disha Das, Bubu Choudhury, Probal Banik, Madhusudhan Kar and others.
