BSF & Customs jointly nab drug peddler; Recovered drugs worth Rs. 3.66 crore

গোপন সূত্রে খবর পেয়ে বুধবার ভোরে লক্ষ্মীপুরের মারকুলিনে বড়সড় অভিযান চালায় কেন্দ্রীয় শুল্ক বিভাগ ও বিএসএফ। ধরা পড়ে আবুল হোসেন নামে এক মাদক পাচারকারী। তার কাছে ৩৬ হাজার ৬০০টি মাদক ট্যাবলেট পাওয়া গিয়েছে। বাজেয়াপ্ত ট্যাবলেটের বাজারমূল্য অন্তত ৩ কোটি ৬৬ লক্ষ টাকা বলে বিএসএফ সূত্রে জানা গিয়েছে। জাবা নামের এই ট্যাবলেটগুলি মায়ান্মারে তৈরি। মূলত বাংলাদেশে পাচারের জন্য এগুলি আনা হয়। উত্তর-পূর্বেও এর বেশ চাহিদা রয়েছে। ধৃতকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হচ্ছে। বিএসএফ আশাবাদী, আবুল হোসেনকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করে এই অঞ্চলের মাদক চোরাকারবারের সিন্ডিকেটে আঘাত করা যাবে।

Based on intelligence report, custom officials along with BSF troops in a joint operation at Lakhipur in Cachar district detained a drug peddler, Abul Hussain along with drugs worth Rs. 3.66 crore in International market.

On the basis of the intelligence report received by the Custom Department, a detailed operational plan was made to nab the drug peddler and recover psychotropic consignment. In the wee hours of 29 August, custom official alongwith BSF troops, in a joint operation cordoned the suspected house and searched for hidden drug items. During search, the drug peddler namely Abul Hussain S/o Akoddar Ali resident of Ward No. 06, Hmarkhaulen village, PS Lakhipur, district Cachar was apprehended and 36,600 Yaba tablets (METHAMPHETAMINE)  worth Rs. 3.66 crores approximately were recovered from his house.

Yaba tablet is a psychotropic substance normally manufactured in Myanmar and smuggled to Bangladesh and other part of India through drug peddlers of Karimganj and Cachar districts. It is a known fact that this tablet is playing havoc in the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam where youths are getting addicted to it. Border Security Force is putting its best efforts in co-operation with other sister agencies like Custom, DRI and Police to foil such attempts of smugglers and drug peddlers.

In a press release issued by BSF, it was stated that, “The arrest of drug peddler and recovery of such huge quantity of Yaba tablets on an specific information of custom officials and meticulously planned and well coordinated operation of BSF troops of 131 Bn BSF will act as a deterrent to the smugglers of Barak Valley.”
