ওয়েটুবরাক, ২১ নভেম্বর: সমাজে একটি ধারণা আছে যে, স্তন ক্যান্সার শুধু মহিলাদেরই হয়ে থাকে। কিন্তু তা সত্য নয়, পুরুষদেরও স্তন ক্যান্সার হতে পারে। এমনটাই জানালেন কাছাড় ক্যান্সার হাসপাতাল অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ সেন্টারের অনকোলজিস্ট ডা: বেনজির বড়লস্কর। গতকাল তিনি আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কমিউনিটি এনগেজমেন্ট প্রোগ্রামে বক্তব্য রাখছিলেন।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থের উপস্থিতিতে আয়োজিত এই অনুষ্ঠানে ডা: বেনজির বলেন, স্ব-পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে ক্যান্সার শনাক্ত করা সম্ভব। তাছাড়া ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধে সচেতনতা ও শনাক্তকরণ খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এক্ষেত্রে জ্ঞান, শিক্ষা ও প্রচার অপরিহার্য বলেও উল্লেখ করেন তিনি।

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এনএসএস সেলের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত এই কর্মসূচিতে প্রায় ৯০ জন শিক্ষার্থী অংশগ্রহণ করেন। স্বাগত বক্তব্য পেশ করেন প্রোগ্রাম কো-অর্ডিনেটর অধ্যাপক এম গঙ্গাভূষণ। তিনি তরুণ সমাজকে আসক্তি থেকে দূরে রেখে সমাজকল্যাণমূলক কাজে যুক্ত করার প্রয়োজনীয়তা তুলে ধরেন।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ ক্যান্সার সম্পর্কে জনসচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি ও প্রাথমিক শনাক্তকরণের গুরুত্বের ওপর আলোকপাত করেন। তিনি জানান, সমাজকে এই মারণ রোগ সম্পর্কে সচেতন করতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সবসময়ই কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। তিনি এক্ষেত্রে এনএসএস সেলের সক্রিয় ভূমিকার কথাও উল্লেখ করেন।

এনএসএস সেলের প্রোগ্রাম অফিসার ড. শুভদীপ রায় চৌধুরীর তত্ত্বাবধানে আয়োজিত এই কর্মসূচির শেষে ছিল প্রশ্নোত্তর পর্ব। এতে শিক্ষার্থীরা সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশ নেন। এই কর্মসূচি ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধ বিষয়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে আয়োজকদের প্রত্যাশা।

way2barak, November 21: There is a common belief in society that breast cancer occurs only in women. However, this is not true—men can also develop breast cancer. This was stated by oncologist Dr. Benazir Barlaskar from Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre while addressing the Community Engagement Programme at Assam University yesterday.
Speaking at the event held in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Dr. Benazir highlighted that early detection of cancer is possible through self-examination. She emphasized that awareness and screening play a vital role in cancer prevention. Knowledge, education, and dissemination of information are essential in this regard, she added.
Around 90 students participated in the programme, which was organised by the NSS Cell of the university. The welcome address was delivered by Programme Coordinator Prof. M. Gangabhusan, who stressed the need to engage the youth in social welfare activities and keep them away from addiction.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant underscored the importance of public awareness and early detection of cancer. He stated that the university has been consistently working to spread awareness about this deadly disease and acknowledged the active role played by the NSS Cell in this endeavour.
The event, held under the supervision of NSS Programme Officer Dr. Subhadeep Roy Choudhury, concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session in which students participated enthusiastically. Organisers expressed hope that the programme will play a significant role in raising awareness about cancer prevention.
