Bodo to be introduced as a medium of instruction in Class XI & XII: Assam Cabinet

way2barak, Sept.6: In the weekly Assam Cabinet on September 6, several key decisions related to development of BTR, police accountability, repeal of obsolete Acts, new cultural university, sports varsity, etc., among others were taken. The Cabinet Meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Assam Cabinet met in Kokrajhar today as part of the government’s initiative to hold Cabinet meetings in different districts.

KEY DECISIONS: 

FOCUS ON BORO LEARNING: Bodo Medium in HS Level

Bodo to be introduced as a medium of instruction in Class XI & XII of Bodo medium and mixed medium (having Bodo medium) HS schools to promote advancement & development of Bodo language

Hastening Appointment or Bodo Language Teachers: 

• Professors, assistant professors and associate professors to be appointed for Bodo language to be brought outside the ambit of reservation
• Students having requisite qualifications irrespective of their caste can now onwards apply for the post of Bodo language teachers in colleges

Ensuring Accountability of Police:

• Approval to Assam Police (Amendment) Bill, 2022
• Proposed amendment will look into establishment of District Accountability Authority in each Police District/ group of districts in a Police Range to further ensure accountability of the police and to enquire into cases of complaints of serious misconduct against police personnel

New cultural University:

As part of an effort to correlate education with Indian classical tradition and value system, Auniati University to be set up at Kaliapani Satra, Teok in Jorhat district under The Assam Private Universities Act, 2007

Ordinances for Sports Varsity:

Approval to 26 ordinances to be tabled in upcoming Assembly session to ensure smooth administration of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University

JJM – Fresh Guidelines:

Approval to fresh guidelines related to implementation of schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) vis-à-vis delegation of financial power at different administrative levels of PHE Dept to ensure smooth execution of works.

Repealing Obsolete Acts:
Introduction of the revised Assam Repealing Bill, 2022 comprising 48 obsolete Acts including some framed as early as 1793.
