Boat race festival conducted in Cachar to create awareness among voters
March 27: As a part of Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation programme in connection with Assembly election, 2021, the Cachar District Administration organised a mega voter awareness through boat race competition on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the event in presence of Circle Officer attached to Sonai, Bikash Chetri ALRS who is also a nodal officer of SVEEP Cell.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner, Jalli said, “Under the umbrella programme of ‘Garv Cachar’ for voter awareness, we are celebrating all the elements that make Cachar special to remind our voters that voting as a right is not just our pride but our legacy too”.
“We celebrated Earth of Cachar through Rangoli. We have celebrated Sand Art festival and wind for voter awareness through the kite festival and this time around we celebrated water for voter awareness through boat racing competition,” added DC Jalli.
DC further said ” It’s very essential to celebrate the biggest festival of democracy through all the elements and this time through water so that it could reach out to the maximum people to those for whom water is the one and only source of life. This will bring the voter awareness message for them. Also they have been asked to vote on April 1″ She also called on everyone to vote on this day.
Circle Officer attached to Sonai LAC and nodal officer of SVEEP Cell, Bikash Chetri said it was a creative move that will attract maximum number of voters from that area specially with low turnout that we have from last two elections. This will motivate people to go and vote.
Around 150 participants took part in the Boat festival organised by the District Administration and around 1000 local villagers gathered to witness the Boat festival. All of them enjoyed this innovative event and appreciated the festive step. They thanked the District Administration for coming to their area and celebrating the biggest festival of democracy along with them. Later winners were rewarded with cash prizes and mementos by the District Administration. A pledge was also administered on the occasion for casting of vote on 1 April.
