Boat capsizes at Katigorah, 2 brothers died

৩ জানুয়ারিঃ কীর্তন সেরে ফেরার পথে বরাক নদীতে নৌকা পাল্টি খেলে দুইজনের মৃত্যু হয়। নিহত অতীন্দ্র দাস ও অঞ্জন দাস খুড়তুতো-জেঠতুতো ভাই। কাটিগড়ার সিদ্ধিপুরে বাড়ি তাঁদের। একই গ্রামের ৬জন নদীর ওপারে শিবচরে গিয়েছিলেন। সজল দাসের বাড়িতে কীর্তনে অংশ নেন। রাত সাড়ে ১২টা নাগাদ রওয়ানা হন বাড়ির উদ্দেশে। মাঝনদীতে আচমকা নৌকো পাল্টি খায়। চারজন সাঁতরে পারে উঠতে সক্ষম হলেও অতীন্দ্র-অঞ্জনের খোঁজ মেলেনি।

রাতেই গ্রামবাসী জাল ফেলে সন্ধান চালান। ভোর ৩টা নাগাদ ৩২ বছর বয়সী অঞ্জনের মৃতদেহ ভেসে ওঠে। বৃহস্পতিবার সকালেই এসডিআরএফ নদীতে নামে। বেলা ১২টায় বছর ৩৪-এর অতীন্দ্রের দেহের খোঁজ মেলে।

January 3: Two men lost their lives when their boat capsized in the river. They were returning home after performing a programme of devotional songs (kirtan). The deceased Anjan Das and Atindra Das cousin brothers. Their house is at Sidhhipur area of Katigorah. Six of them from the same village went to the house of one Sajal Das at Shibchar situated on the other side of the river. There they performed kirtan. After the programme, they started for home after 12 midnight. Their boat capsized all of a sudden in mid river. Though 4 of them could swim to the bank but Anjan and Atindra drowned.

The villagers threw net in the river at night and tried hard to locate them but their efforts could not yield the desired result. The dead body of 32-year old Anjan floated at around 3 in the morning. SDRF was called in. At around 12 in the afternoon the body of 34-year Atindra was found.
