Government holiday for Janmashtami on Friday

২২ আগস্টঃ জন্মাষ্টমীর সরকারি ছুটি শনিবার নয়, শুক্রবার। বৃহস্পতিবার রাজ্যপাল জগদীশ মুখি এ সংক্রান্ত বিজ্ঞপ্তি জারি করেছেন। আগে স্থির হয়েছিল, শনিবার জন্মাষ্টমীর জন্য অসম সরকারের সমস্ত দফতরে কর্মচারীরা ছুটি ভোগ করবেন। কিন্তু তিথির হিসেবে জন্মাষ্টমী শুক্রবার পালিত হচ্ছে বলে রাজ্য সরকার সে দিনই ছুটি পালনের উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে। সে অনুসারেই রাজভবন থেকে সরকারি বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে। ডেফোডিলস স্কুল,রামানুজ গুপ্ত জুনিয়র কলেজ এবং বিবেকানন্দ জুনিয়র কলেজও শুক্রবার জন্মাষ্টমী উপলক্ষে ছুটি ঘোষণা করেছে।

তবে ছুটি নিয়ে মুশকিলে কলেজ-বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক-অশিক্ষক কর্মচারীরা। কলেজগুলি সমস্ত সরকারি কাজকর্মে রাজ্য সরকারের নীতি-নির্দেশিকা মেনে চললেও ছুটিছাঁটার ক্ষেত্রে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্যালেন্ডারই মানে। ওই ক্যালেন্ডারে জন্মাষ্টমীর কথার উল্লেখ নেই। কোনও বছরই এই উপলক্ষে ছুটি থাকে না। এ বারও না থাকারই কথা ছিল। আচমকা বৃহস্পতিবার বিকেলে কলেজ প্রধানদের কাছে রেজিস্ট্রারের দফতর থেকে বার্তা যায়, এই বছর জন্মাষ্টমী উপলক্ষে শনিবার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বন্ধ থাকবে।

কলেজগুলি শনিবারই ছুটির নির্দেশ জারি করে। কিন্তু পরবর্তী সময়ে রাজ্যপালের বিজ্ঞপ্তি তাদের বিভ্রান্তিতে ফেলে। অধিকাংশ কলেজ শেষে সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়, রেজিস্ট্রারের নির্দেশে তাঁরা যেহেতু ছুটি ভোগ করতে চলেছেন, তাই শনিবারই কলেজ বন্ধ রাখা হবে।

August 22: The government holiday for Sri Krishna Janmashtami will be on Friday. In a notification issued by the Assam Government(General Administration Department) on Thursday evening, it was stated that, “In partial modification of this department’s earlier notification, dated 19th December, the Governor of Assam is pleased to declare 23rd August as holiday on account of Janmashtami instead of 24th August 2019.” In this connection, Daffodils School, Ramanuj Gupta Degree College and Vivekananda Junior College have declared holiday on Friday on account of Janmashtami.

However, the Janmashtami holiday has created a confusion among the Teaching & non-teaching staff of Assam University, Silchar and its affiliated colleges. Though the provincialised colleges of Assam are guided by the rules and regulations of Assam Government but the academic aspect is conducted as per the dictum of the affiliating university. The colleges also follow the holiday list as issued by Assam University. In the Holiday List of Assam University, there is no holiday for Janmashtami since the last few years.

However, on Thursday evening, a notification was issued by the Registrar of Assam University, wherein holiday for university and affiliated colleges was declared on Saturday, 24 August, 2019. But on the same day later in the evening, when the Governor of Assam notified that the holiday for Janmashtami will be on 23 August instead of 24 August, a great confusion surfaced. In the absence of any updated instruction/notification from the Registrar of Assam University, most of the colleges will remain open on Friday and the holiday for Janmashtami will be given on Saturday as per the notification of the Registrar.
