BJP stages state-wide protest against manhandling of their Tinsukia District President
February 1: Along with the rest of the districts of Assam, Cachar BJP also organised a massive protest demonstration on February 1 in a reaction to the Tinsukia clash on 30 January, 2019. A rally was also taken out by district BJP in this connection.
Amid the ongoing agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, BJP’s Tinsukia District President Lakheswar Moran arrived to attend a meeting organised by the Lok Jagran Manch on Wednesday, an RSS affiliate.The group has been involved in organising a series of public programmes in Upper Assam to ‘dispel myth’ about the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
In a video which has gone viral in social media, it was seen that after the district BJP leader arrived at the spot, he was greeted with slogans and black flags by over 3,000 protesters. They were seen thrashing the BJP leader. He was slapped, beaten and pulled by hair. The protesters also assaulted some other BJP members.
In this connection, the Tinsukia district BJP on Thursday took out a silent protest march where Assam BJP president, Ranjeet Kumar Das also marked his presence.
Further, Assam BJP on Thursday said that it will stage a massive protest across all the districts of the state on Friday. As a part of this protest, BJP leaders and supporters of Cachar took out a protest march at Silchar on Friday.
