Bill will be passed & culture of forceful donation to be regarded as criminal offence: CM Assam
Anyone found collecting forceful donation would have their assets seized by the court to repay the victim: HBS
Feb. 2: Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has made it clear the state government will not tolerate any act of collecting forceful donations. He categorically stated that such a culture of collecting donations by use of force will definitely hamper the state’s development. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Chief Minister stated that his government will introduce a Bill in the Assembly against ‘forceful’ donation culture run by many organizations and groups in the state.
The Chief Minister categorically stated that once the Billis passed by the Assam Assembly, anyone found collecting forceful donation then would have their assets seized by the court to repay the victim. “Such acts of forceful collection of so-called donation will be considered as a criminal offence from now on,” added Dr Sarma.
He added that investors from outside will never come to the state and set up business if such type of a culture of extorting money forcefully in the name of donation is not stopped. He even said that forceful donation is often taken from non-Assamese like Biharis and Barwaris, which is very illegal. These people earn their livelihood by their hard work and so they cannot be robbed off their income in the name of ‘donation.’
