১২ ঘণ্টার ভারত বনধে আজ সকাল থেকেই শিলচর সহ বরাক উপত্যকায় ব্যাপক সাড়া পরিলক্ষিত হয়। ভোর থেকে অবিজেপি বিভিন্ন দলের পিকেটাররা পথে পথে ছড়িয়ে পড়েন। বেলা যত বাড়ে রাস্তায় বাড়ে পিকেটারের সংখ্যা। বনধ দেখতে প্রচুর সাধারণ মানুষও রাস্তায় বের হয়। ক্যাপিটাল মোড়ে খোদ জেলা কংগ্রেস সভাপতি প্রদীপ দে, সীমান্ত ভট্টাচার্য, সঞ্জীব রায়, সুজন দত্তরা সকাল থেকে ঠায় দাঁড়িয়ে। আসেন প্রাক্তন মন্ত্রী অজিত সিংহও।

লাল পতাকা হাতে দাপিয়ে বেড়ায় সিপিআইএমএল ক্যাডাররা। সঙ্গে পুলিশ-সিআরপিতে ছয়লাপ শহর। অফিস পাড়ায় রেফ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে।

শিলচর রেলস্টেশনেও পিকেটাররা ভোর থেকে রেললাইনে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়ে। তাতে ভোরের দুটো ট্রেন রওয়ানা হতে পারেনি। তবে পিকেটারদের গ্রেফতার করে সকাল ৮টায় আগরতলাগামী ট্রেন ছাড়া হয়। মোট ১১জনকে রেললাইন থেকে তুলে আনে পুলিশ। তাদের ৮জনই এসইউসিআই-র। বাকিরা যুব কংগ্রেসি। তাদের কাছাড় কলেজ অস্থায়ী জেলে রাখা হয়।

এ দিকে, বিমান যথারীতি চলাচল করছে। সকালে যাত্রীদের শহর থেকে বেরিয়ে যেতে সমস্যা হয়নি। কিন্তু বিমানবন্দর থেকে শহরে আসার সময় যাত্রীবোঝাই এএসটিসি বাসকে স্থানে স্থানে আটকানো হয়। শেষে দীর্ঘ সময় দাঁড়িয়ে কৈফিয়ত দিতে হয় ক্যাপিটেল এলাকায়। তবে গাড়িদুটিকে এসকর্ট করছিলেন ডিএসপি অনলজ্যোতি বর্মন। তিনিই বাসগুলিকে পিকেটারমুক্ত করে দেবদূত ফ্ল্যাগ স্টেশনে নিয়ে পৌঁছান। এর পর শুরু হয় বিমানযাত্রীদের মূল দুর্ভোগ। একে তো অনেকের সঙ্গে বড় বড় লাগেজ। এর ওপর কোনও দিকে এগুনোর গাড়ি-রিকশা নেই। বন্ধ সমস্ত দোকানপাটও।

September 10: The 12 hour Bharat Bandh convened on Monday had a great impact at Silchar along with all three districts of Barak Valley. From early morning picketers belonging to the Congress and left parties spread out in various parts of the town. As the arms of the clock moved forward, the number of picketers increased. Common people out of curiosity also came down on the streets. At the Capital Travels point, Congress President Pradip Dey, Simanta Bhattacharjee, Sanjib Roy, Sujan Dutta and others stood for a long time. Former Minister Ajit Singh also joined his party members.

Waving red flags, the cadres of CPIML were also seen in various parts of the town. Police and CRPF were present in large numbers. Rapid Action Force was on duty in and around the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the air service functioned as usual. Passengers from Silchar could reach the airport in the morning without any obstacle. However, while coming from the airport, passengers on board ASTC bus had to undertake a lot of trouble. DSP Anal Jyoti Barman escorted the Silchar bound bus from the airport till Devdoot Flag Station. But greater trouble waited for them at Silchar town. With heavy luggages and no vehicles, they got stranded for long hours. Shops and markets also remained closed at Silchar

The bandh has been planned to protest increasing prices of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, cooking gas, falling value of the Indian rupee versus the dollar and other issues that ‘affect’ the people.” An immediate reduction of central excise duty and excessive VAT in the states, bringing petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST are amongst some of the demands of the Opposition.

Susmita Dev, in her capacity as the President of All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) was seen to play a leading role during the hartal at Delhi by raising slogans against the Modi government.
