মণিপুরে বাঙালি নিগ্রহ, কথা বললেন কমলাক্ষ-আসাবুদ্দিনBengali oppression in Manipur: Talks held between Kamalakhya & Ashabuddin
The Bengalis in the neighbouring state of Manipur have become victims of oppression since the passing of the Manipur Protection Act. As per the said Act, 1951 has been regarded as the cut-off year for acquiring citizenship. Things have assumed a more critical turn with the publication of the final draft of NRC in Assam wherein the names of 40,07,707 persons were excluded from the list. It is in this backdrop that the Bengali speaking people are being harassed both by the police & various other students’ association. The Bengalis in Manipur are thus passing their days in great distress.
In this regard talks were held between Ashabuddin, independent MLA of Jiribam, who is also the parliamentarty secretary of BJP ruled Manipur and Congress MLA from North Karimganj Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha. The discussion took place today evening in the house of Cachar District Congress President, Pradip Kumar Dey at Lakhipur. However, after the meeting none of them disclosed anything about their discussion.
