BDYF holds protest demonstration in Silchar against killing of a truck driver in Meghalaya
Aug 18: Barak Democratic Youth Front (BDYF) organised a protest meeting at the pedestal of Khudiram statue in Silchar. On Wednesday, the members of BDYF along with some of the commercial vehicle drivers assembled there to protest the brutal assassination of Alok Das (45) from Duhalia village in Karimganj district of Assam who was killed in West Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of BDYF, Kalparnab Gupta said, “It is known to all that there is racist aggression which worked behind the murder of vehicle driver Alok Das. In entire Meghalaya, a volatile situation is prevailing. Such a state of anarchy proves the failure of BJP and its ally in Meghalaya led by Conrad Sangma. They have miserably failed to give security to the Bengalis in Meghalaya. That is why, we have assemble here to register our voice of protest.”
“We demand compensation from the government for the family of the deceased Alok Das. This is not an isolated incident of killing. Off and on, Bengalis and other non-Khasis are harassed, killed, looted in Meghalaya, while the government there practically does nothing to correct those wrong doings or punish the wrong-doers,” said Kalparnab Gupta. He further demanded that appropriate action must be taken so that such racist crimes are not committed in the future.
