Barak Valley registers 98 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 137 discharged

There are 929 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 9: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 98 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 137 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 929 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 115 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 73 positive cases   (It was 69 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 13 positive cases (It was 33 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 12 positive cases (It was 13 on Wednesday)

A total of 73 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,307 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 39 persons were found positive, whereas 34 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,058, whereas during this phase, 17,503 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 384. Also, 88 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in gradually is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 7 July to 5 PM on 8 July) did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Thursday evening.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 8 July, there were 103 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 46 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 57 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 12 patients were put under ventilator support and 68 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 09 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 08 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered 12 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 12 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 11 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 106 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,293 RAT tests and 321 RT-PCR tests were done. 09 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,587 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,059 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 13 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday. Till date 47 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district. Further, 1,64,279 persons (1st dose 1,38,792 1st dose & 2nd dose 25,487) were administered Covid-19 vaccine.

Karimganj registered only 13 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 369 active COVID-19 cases, while 50 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 2,475 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 33 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 1,06,760 tests, 2,644 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,227,200. The positivity rate in the state is 2.48 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 168 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 21 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,764. The recovery rate is 94.72 percent.

It needs mention here that on Wednesday, 2,289 persons tested positive in Assam and 26 deaths were registered.
