Barak Valley registers 905 Covid-19 +ve cases on Monday, 6 deaths at SMCH

Active cases 3,937 in Barak Valley

May 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 905 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 463 positive cases. At present, there are 3,937 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 668 positive cases   (It was 302 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 152 positive cases (It was 58 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 85 positive cases (It was 103 on Sunday)

A total of 668 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday in Cachar. This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020. As per the updated data, a total of 7,297 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 459 persons were found positive, whereas 209 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Monday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 7,253 in 2021, whereas during the year, 4,631 patients were discharged. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,569. Also, 274 patients were discharged during the day.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 06 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 06 deceased, 03 are from Cachar district, 02 from Karimganj & 01 from Hailakandi.

The deceased were identified as Adbul Madrib (53) from Badarpur in Karimganj district, Amalendu Deb (70) from Hailakandi, Samarendra Chandra Paul (63) from Shyamananda Lane, Silchar, Surajit Bhumijh (40) from Kalinagar in Cachar, Sukia Koiri (47) from Tilunagar in Cachar and Santosh Namasudra (55) from Batunagar in Karimganj.

Hailakandi registered 85 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 85 positive cases detected on Monday, 81 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 04 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 743 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,645 RAT tests and 395 RT-PCR tests were done. 107 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 103 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,345. Till date, 18 persons have died in Hailakandi due to Covid-19

As of now, in the 50,980 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 15,407 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 152 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 1528 active cases detected on monday, 144 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 08 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 757 active COVID-19 cases, while 121 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 3,385 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 58 positives cases were detected in Karimganj on Sunday.

On Monday, out of 1,20,668 tests, 6,221 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,75,404. The positivity rate in the state is 5.16 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 729 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 84 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,823. On Monday, 5,252 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,18,585 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 84 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 84 deceased, 12 are from Kamrup Metro; 10 from Kamrup Rural; 09 from Tinsukia; 08 from Dibrugarh; 05 each from Cachar & Sonitpur; 04 each from Baksa, Goalpara & Nagaon; 03 from Barpeta; 02 each from Biswanath, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar, Udalguri & Sivasagar; 01 each from Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Lakhimpur & Nalbari. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,823.
