Barak Valley registers 90 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 58 discharged

There are 613 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was less again. A total of 90 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 58 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 613 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 119 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 61 positive cases   (It was 81 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 18 positive cases (It was 27 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 11 positive cases (It was 11 on Friday)

A total of 61 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 3,461 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 41 persons were found positive, whereas 20 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,832 whereas during this phase, 18,344 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 308. Also, 30 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in gradually is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 23 July to 5 PM on 24 July) did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Saturday evening.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 24 July, there were 66 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 36 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 20 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 08 patients were put under ventilator support and 42 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 13 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 08 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 11 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 11 positive cases detected on Saturday, 10 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 70 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,318 RAT tests and 171 RT-PCR tests were done. 05 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,749 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,255 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 11 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. Till date 49 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 18 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 235 active COVID-19 cases, while 23 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 2,895 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 27 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,18,889 tests, 1,595 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,57,437. The positivity rate in the state is 1.34 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 179 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 23 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 5,114. The recovery rate is 96.26 percent. It needs mention here that on Friday, 1,621 persons tested positive in Assam and 15 deaths were registered.
