Barak Valley registers 846 Covid-19 +ve cases on Tuesday, 7 deaths at SMCH
Active cases 4,125 in Barak Valley
May 25: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 846 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 905 positive cases. At present, there are 4,125 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 602 positive cases (It was 668 on Monday)
- Karimganj: 132 positive cases (It was 152 on Monday)
- Hailakandi: 112 positive cases (It was 85 on Monday)
A total of 602 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday in Cachar. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,655. As per the updated data, a total of 7,061 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 438 persons were found positive, whereas 164 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Tuesday night. Also, 278 patients were discharged during the day.With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 7,633 in 2021, whereas during the year, 4,909 patients were discharged.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 07 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 07 deceased, 04 are from Cachar district, 02 from Karimganj & 01 from Hailakandi.
The deceased were identified as: Muzibur Ragman Mazumder (50) from Gonigram in Katigorah, Cachar; Surajit Deb (70) from Patharkandi in Karimganj district; Sudhangshu Chanda (81) from Padma Nagar (Bilpar), Silchar; Rajarshi Bhattacharjee (35) from Latu in Karimganj; Bijoy Rakshit (72) from Itkhola, Silchar; Nazim Uddin Barbhuiya (55) from Berenga in Cachar and Abdul Nur Choudhury (60) from Katlicherra in Hailakandi district.
Hailakandi registered 112 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 112 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 107 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 05 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 734 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,232 RAT tests and 302 RT-PCR tests were done. 119 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 85 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,457. Till date, 18 persons have died in Hailakandi due to Covid-19.
As of now, in the 51, 342 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 15,911 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 111 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. Of the 111 active cases detected on Tuesday, 102 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 09 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 736 active COVID-19 cases, while 132 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Tuesday. 2,827 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 152 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Monday.
On Tuesday, out of 1,14,315 tests, 5,767 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,81,171. The positivity rate in the state is 5.04 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 624 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 92 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. This is the highest single day death toll in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,915.
Further, during the day, 92 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 92 deceased, 27 are from Kamrup Metro; 08 from Dibrugarh; 07 each from Jorhat & Sonitpur; 06 from Kamrup Rural; 03 each from Cachar, Dhubri, Hojai, Nalbari & Udalguri; 02 each from Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar & Sivasagar; 01 each from Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dima Hasao, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Tinsukia & Hailakandi. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,915.
