Barak Valley registers 818 Covid-19 +ve cases on Saturday, 6 deaths at SMCH
Active cases 3,744 in Barak Valley
May 22: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 818 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 705 positive cases. At present, there are 3,744 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 630 positive cases (It was 486 on Friday)
- Karimganj: 83 positive cases (It was 102 on Friday)
- Hailakandi: 105 positive cases (It was 117 on Friday)
A total of 630 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. This is the highest single day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020. As per the updated data, a total of 6,746 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 432 persons were found positive, whereas 198 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Saturday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 6,455 in 2021, whereas during the year, 4,158 patients were discharged. Also, 129 patients were discharged during the day. The total number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,248.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 06 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. All the 06 deceased are from Cachar district.
The deceased were identified as: Madhabi Rani Das (63) from Shibpur in Cachar district, Faizur Rahman Barbhuiya (76) from Ambicapur in Cachar, Ajay Bahadur Thapa (58) from Mashimpur (Arunachal) in Cachar district, Ranjit Paul (72) also from Mashimpur (Arunachal) in Cachar district, Gayatri Das (69) from Public School Road, Silchar and Maya Chakraborty (67) from Chenkuri Road, Silchar.
Hailakandi registered 83 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 83 positive cases detected on Saturday, 80 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 03 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 753 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,793 RAT tests and 275 RT-PCR tests were done. 144 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 117 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,175.
As of now, in the 18 plus category, 9,822 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine. In the 45 plus category, 48,827 have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, whereas, 15,304 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 105 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 105 active cases detected on Saturday, 103 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 02 under RT-PCR. It needs mention that on Friday, 102 persons were detected as Covid positive in Karimganj district. The district has currently 737 active COVID-19 cases, while 97 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 3,304 swab samples were collected on Saturday.
On Saturday, out of 1,07,389 tests, 5,980 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,65,620. The positivity rate in the state is 5.57 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 902 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 79 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,667. On Saturday, 4,659 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,07,548 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 79 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 79 deceased, 19 are from Kamrup Metro; 09 from Kamrup Rural; 06 each from Barpeta & Sonitpur; 05 from Nagaon; 04 each from Cachar & Tinsukia; 03 from Nalbari; 02 each from Darrang, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Sivasagar & Udalguri; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Charaideo, Chirang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kokhrajhar, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, South Salmara & West Karbianglong. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,667.
