Barak Valley registers 811 Covid-19 +ve cases on Wednesday, 14 deaths recorded
Active cases 4,434 in Barak Valley
May 26: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 811 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 846 positive cases. At present, there are 4,434 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 536 positive cases (It was 602 on Tuesday)
- Karimganj: 126 positive cases (It was 132 on Tuesday)
- Hailakandi: 149 positive cases (It was 112 on Tuesday)
A total of 536 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 7,180 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 379 persons were found positive, whereas 157 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Wednesday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 8,076 in 2021, whereas during the year, 5,281 patients were discharged. Also, 372 patients were discharged during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,733.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 10 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), 01 at Green Heals another at Gracewell Hospital and 02 more in Karimganj. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol.
Out of the 10 deceased, 07 are from Cachar district, 01 from Karimganj & 02 from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as Rekha Acharjee (66) from Ghungoor, Cachar, Johura Begum Barbhuiyan (60) from Baskal in Dholai, Cachar, Prottush Nath (53) from Jaroiltola in Borkhala, Cachar, Sandhya Rani Das (74) from Bazaricherra in Karimganj district, Abdul Rouf Choudhury (67) from Algapur in Hailakandi, Rubi Barman from PHE Campus quarter at Silchar Medical, Ayesha Begum Laskar (60) from Dakhhin Mohanpur in Hailakandi district, Nikunja Singha (58) from Dudhpur in Cachar, Milon Rani Das (60) from Rajpur in Katigorah, Cachar and N. Bimal Singh (52) from Binnakandi (Kaptanpur) in Cachar.
Pijush Kanti Chanda (80) from Ambicapatty, Silchar was admitted at Green Heals Pvt Hospital, Silchar. He, however, passed away at 7.15 PM on 26 May. Fayaz Uddin Barbhuiya (64) from Kanakpur, Part-I, Silchar was admitted at Gracewell Hospital, Silchar on 25 May. The patient passed away at 9.57 PM on 26 May.
Another patient died during the day at Karimganj Civil Hospital, whereas the one more died on the way to the district civil hospital.
Hailakandi registered 149 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 149 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 129 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 20 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 859 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,433 RAT tests and 1,276 RT-PCR tests were done. 23 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 112 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,606.
As of now, in the 51,705 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,070 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered 126 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 126 active cases detected on Wednesday, 117 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 09 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 842 active COVID-19 cases, while 16 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Wednesday. 2,822 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 111 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, out of 1,16,119 tests, 5,699 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,86,170. The positivity rate in the state is 4.91 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 670 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 90 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,005. On Wednesday, 6,266 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,29,634 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 90 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 90 deceased, 18 are from Kamrup Metro; 09 from Tinsukia, 08 each from Cachar, Dibrugarh & Kamrup Rural; 06 from Barpeta; 05 from Hojai; 04 from Karimganj; 03 each from Dhemaji, Golaghat & Morigaon; 02 each from Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari & Sonitpur; 01 each from Charaideo, Darrang, Dhubri & Jorhat. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,005.
