Barak Valley registers 78 Covid +ve cases on Friday, 112 discharged & 3 deaths reported
There are 714 active Covid cases in Barak Valley
July 16: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was considerably less. A total of 78 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 112 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 714 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 99 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 54 positive cases (It was 54 on Thursday)
- Karimganj: 16 positive cases (It was 36 on Thursday)
- Hailakandi: 08 positive cases (It was 09 on Thursday)
A total of 54 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Friday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 1,971 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 34 persons were found positive, whereas 20 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,470 whereas during this phase, 17,951 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 343. Also, 68 patients were discharged during the day. The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 15 July to 5 PM on 16 July) witnessed the death of 03 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening. Out of the three deceased, one is from Cachar, 01 from Karimganj and the other from Hailakandi .
The deceased were identified as Prabin Dey (63) from Dormikhal at Dholai in Cachar district, Poritosh Paul (45) from Hailakandi district and Gopal Sena Singha (78) from Dullabhcherra in Karimganj district.
Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 16 July, there were 76 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 52 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 24 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 68 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 11 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 11 of them were discharged.
Hailakandi registered 08 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 08 positive cases detected on Friday, 06 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 02 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 104 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,162 RAT tests and 263 RT-PCR tests were done. 17 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,686 (both 1st & 2nd wave).
As of now, a total of 4,159 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 09 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. Till date 47 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district. Further, on Friday, only 728 persons were administered Covid vaccine (2nd dose only) in Hailakandi.
Karimganj registered 16 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. The district has currently 267 active COVID-19 cases, while 27 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Friday. 5,066 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 36 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Thursday.
On Friday, out of 1,27,490 tests, 1,782 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,44,227. The positivity rate in the state is 1.40 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 174 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 24 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,961. The recovery rate is 95.49 percent. On Friday, 2,656 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 5,19,697 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 18,222 active cases in the state.
Further, during the day, 24 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 24 deceased, 03 are from Jorhat & Lakhimpur; 02 each from Dhubri & Kamrup Metro; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,961.
