Barak Valley registers 72 Covid +ve cases on Monday, 79 discharged & 2 deaths at SMCH

There are 656 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 19: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased again. A total of 72 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 79 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 656 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 53 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 41 positive cases   (It was 29 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 22 positive cases (It was 20 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 04 on Sunday)

A total of 41 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 3,679 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 29 persons were found positive, whereas 12 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,585 whereas during this phase, 18,091 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 315. Also, 48 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 18 July to 5 PM on 19 July) witnessed the death of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday evening.

The deceased were identified as Rajiya Begum from Bandarghat in Karimganj district and Prabhath Bikram Das (90) from Sonai Road, Silchar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 19 July, there were 67 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 47 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 20 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 03 patients were put under ventilator support and 51 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 07 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 15 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 09 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 09 positive cases detected on Monday, all of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas none were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 86 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,537 RAT tests and 246 RT-PCR tests were done. 17 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,706 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,197 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 04 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday. Till date 48 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district. A total of 2,446 persons were vaccinated in the district on Monday.

Karimganj registered 22 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The district has currently 255 active COVID-19 cases, while 14 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 4,928 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 20 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Sunday.

On Monday, out of 1,52,772 tests, 1,797 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,49,080. The positivity rate in the state is 1.18 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 237 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 20 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 5,019. The recovery rate is 95.91 percent. On Monday, 2,138 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 5,26,607 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 16,107 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 20 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 20 deceased, 04 each are from Golaghat & Sonitpur; 02 from Goalpara; 01 each from Barpeta, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Nagaon and Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 5,019.
