Barak Valley registers 701 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday, 567 discharged & 2 deaths reported

There are 3,005 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 18: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 701 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 567 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,005 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 699 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 469 positive cases   (It was 403 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 154 positive cases (It was 206 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi:  78 positive cases (It was 90 on Monday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Tuesday at 6.20 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 400-mark on Tuesday. A total of 469 persons were found positive in the district on 18 January. Also, 359 patients were discharged (351 from home & 08 from hospital) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,837 out of which, 1,680 are in home isolation whereas 157 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Monday, 403 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 2,613 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 333 persons were found positive, whereas 136 were detected positive out of 486 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 3,155 whereas during this phase, 1,307 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 17 January to 12 noon of 18 January, 2022.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 17 January to 5 PM on 18 January) witnessed the death of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Tuesday evening.

The deceased were identified as:

  1. Haradhan Goswami (70) from Monacherra in Hailakandi district tested Covid positive and was admitted at SMCH on 17 January (12.30 AM). The patient, however, breathed his last at 8.45 PM on the same day, that is, on 17 January, 2022. He was suffering from acute coronary syndrome, diabetes, hypertension & pneumonia.
  2. Rina Choudhury (56) from Irongmara in Cachar district tested Covid positive and was also admitted at SMCH on 17 January (3.45 PM). The patient, however, died at 9.45 PM the same night, that is, on 17 January, 2022. She was suffering from acute coronary syndrome, diabetes, hypertension & chronic kidney disease.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 18 January, there were 41 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 02 patients were put under ventilator support, and 13 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 11 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 10 were discharged.

 On Tuesday, Hailakandi registered 78 (76 RAT & 02 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 496 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 895 RAT tests and 45 RT-PCR tests were done. 99 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,775 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,571 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 90 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Monday. Till date, 52 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 1,978 persons were vaccinated on Tuesday. Further, one patient from Hailakandi died during the last 24 hours. This is the first death in the district in the third wave of Covid.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 154 fresh COVID cases on Tuesday. The district has currently 672 active COVID cases, while 104 patients were discharged on Tuesday. 1,093 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 206 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Monday.

On Tuesday, out of 63,944 tests, 8,072 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,61,789. The positivity rate in the state is 12.62 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,996 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 16 died in the state due to COVID-19. The death toll in the state stands at 6,233. The recovery rate is 94.39 percent. Also, 2,444 persons were discharged during the day. There are at present 29,560 active Covid patients in the state.

India witnessed a substantial decrease in fresh Covid cases, reporting 2,38,018 new infections in the last 24 hours, and a total of 310 deaths, said the Union ministry of health and family welfare on Tuesday. With the addition of the new deaths, the toll has reached 4,86,761. On Monday, the country had reported 2,58,089 new cases and 385 deaths. The total count rose to 37,180,271, including 8,891 new Omicron cases, which has been pushing more people around the country into self isolation. The daily active count rose by 80,287, dropping below 1 lakh cases for the first time in nearly two weeks. The daily infections dropped by 20,071 since yesterday’s tally, while the daily positivity rate stood at 14.43 per cent, as opposed to 14.41 per cent yesterday. The active cases now stand at 17,36,628, while recoveries climbed to over 35 million with 157,421 people getting better in the past 24 hours, the bulletin showed. The recovery rate has touched 94.09 per cent.
