Barak Valley registers 567 Covid +ve cases on Saturday; 5 deaths registered
Active cases 2,686 in Barak Valley
May 15: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased. A total of 567 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 263 positive cases. At present, there are 2,686 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 352 positive cases (It was 180 on Friday)
- Karimganj: 103 positive cases (It was 34 on Friday)
- Hailakandi: 112 positive cases (It was 49 on Friday)
A total of 352 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,402 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 253 persons were found positive, whereas 99 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Saturday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 4,103 in 2021, whereas during the year, 2,726 patients were discharged. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,350.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 05 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 05 deceased at SMCH, 04 of them are from Cachar district, while 01 of them is from Karimganj district.
The 05 deceased were identified as: Rathi Dhar Nandi (55) from Mona Village in Karimganj, Dipak Shill (34) from Durganagar Part V in Cachar, Nilmoni Singh (75) from Kabuganj in Cachar, Ajit Kumar Modak (82) from Rangirkhari in Silchar and Utpal Banerjee (65) from Silchar.
Hailakandi registered 112 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 112 positive cases detected on Saturday, 103 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 09 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 640 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,008 RAT tests and 72 RT-PCR tests were done. 10 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 34 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 4,421.
Karimganj reported 103 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,794. Of the 103 active cases detected on Saturday, 100 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and three under RT-PCR.
The district has altogether 696 active COVID-19 cases while 127 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Saturday. 1,695 swab samples were collected on Saturday. Altogether 2,48,007 samples have been tested so far. 10 persons with high risk contacts traced and tested on Saturday. Five containment zones have come up on Saturday.
On Saturday, out of 64,701 tests, 5,347 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,24,979. The positivity rate in the state is 8.26 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,012 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 63 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,123. On Saturday, 3,254 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,77,501 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 63 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 63 deceased, 21 are from Kamrup Metro; 5 each in Cachar & Dibrugarh; 3 each in Bongaigaon, Kamrup Rural & Karbi Anglong; 2 each in Barpeta, Darrang, Goalpara, Golaghat, Nalabri & Sonitpur; 1 each from Dhemaji, Dhubri, Hojai, Jorhat, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, South Salmara & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,123.
