Barak Valley registers 548 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 92 discharged

There are 1,811 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 13: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 548 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 92 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,811 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 399 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 325 positive cases   (It was 214 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 133 positive cases (It was 109 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi:  90 positive cases (It was 76 on Wednesday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Thursday at 7.30 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 300-mark on Thursday. A total of 325 persons were found positive in the district on 13 January. Also, 81 patients were discharged (11 from hospital & 70 from home) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1.024, out of which, 915 are in home isolation whereas 105 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Wednesday, 214 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 2,203 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 156 persons were found positive, whereas 169 were detected positive out of 462 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 1,233 whereas during this phase, 249 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 12 January to 12 noon of 12 January, 2022. Further, a total of 4 persons died due to Covid in Cachar this year.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 12 January to 5 PM on 13 January) did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Thursday evening.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 13 January, there were 44 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 01 patient was put under ventilator support, and 12 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 06 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 03 were discharged. Further, 04 patients were shifted to Covid Care Centre.

On Thursday, Hailakandi registered 90 (90 RAT & 00 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 383 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 662 RAT tests and 14 RT-PCR tests were done. 05 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,441 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,531 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 76 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday. Till date, 51 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 341 persons were vaccinated on Tuesday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 133 fresh COVID case on Thursday. The district has currently 404 active COVID cases, while 16 patients were discharged on Thursday. 1,036 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 109 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 41,165 tests, 3,238 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,39,008. The positivity rate in the state is 7.87 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,070 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 03 died in the state due to COVID-19. The death toll in the state stands at 6,192. The recovery rate is 96.66 percent.

India recorded 2,47,417 fresh Covid-19 cases, while the death toll has climbed to 4,85,035 with 380 fresh fatalities in the 24 hours ending 8 am Thursday, stated the Union health ministry. The daily positivity rate increased to 13.11 per cent, data from the Union Ministry of Health showed. The country showed 84,825 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The active caseload now stand at 11,17,531. India recorded 620 cases of Omicron, its highest single-day spike in the cases of the new variant of coronavirus, according to data released by the Union health ministry. With this, the country’s Omicron tally reached 5,488. The health ministry data also showed that 2,162 Omicron patients recovered in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra continued its top position with 1,367 cases of the Omicron, followed by Rajasthan at 792, Delhi 549, Kerala 486 and Karnataka 479.
