Barak Valley registers 527 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 2 deaths at SMCH

June 10: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increasef once again. A total of 527 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. At present, there are 4,980 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 485 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 359 positive cases   (It was 314 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 115 positive cases (It was 113 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 53 positive cases (It was 58 on Wednesday)

A total of 359 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 11,559 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 274 persons were found positive, whereas 85 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 14,147. At present, there are 2,928 active cases in Cachar.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 9 June to 5 PM on 10 June) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Both of them are from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Ganga Prasad Dhobi (75) from Kamranga Part-II in Cachar and Deb Charan Ree (58) from Darangkhal in Cachar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 10 June, there were 213 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 82 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 131 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 22 patients were put under ventilator support and 141 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 32 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 30 of them were discharged. Further, 17 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 53 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 53 positive cases detected on Thursday, 48 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 05 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,021 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,095 RAT tests and 308 RT-PCR tests were done. 136 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,991. As of now, a total of 2,565 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 58 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday.

As of now, in the 58,738 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 17,047 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 115 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 1,096 active COVID-19 cases. Of the 115 positive cases detected on Thursday, 107 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 08 found positive in RT-PCR test.

On Thursday, out of 1,22,313 tests, 3,756 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,50,201. The positivity rate in the state is 3.07 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 323 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 51 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,844. The recovery rate is 88.39 percent. On Thursday, 5,123 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,97,929 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 47,081 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 51 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 51 deceased, 07 are from Tinsukia; 06 are from Jorhat; 05 each from Barpeta, Dibrugarh & Sonoitpur; 03 each from Kamrup Metro, Sivasagar & Karbi Anglong; 02 each from Cachar, Darrang & Goalpara; 01 each from Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Kokhrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon & Nalbari.The death tally of the state now stands at 3,844.
