Barak Valley registers 512 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday, 816 discharged & 5 deaths recorded

There are 5,672 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 2: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 512 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 553 positive cases. At present, there are 5,965 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 317 positive cases   (It was 402 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 85 positive cases (It was 69 on Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi: 110 positive cases (It was 82 on Tuesday)

A total of 317 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 6,647 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 261 persons were found positive, whereas 56 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 10,981 in 2021, whereas during the year, 7,871 patients were discharged. Also, 642 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,003.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 1 June to 5 PM on 2 June) witnessed demise of 05 Covid-19 positive patient. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 05 deceased, 02 are from Cachar district, 01 from Karimganj & 02 from Hailakandi.

The deceased at SMCH were identified as: Promesh Paul (65) from Bazaricherra in Karmimganj, Renu Bala Chanda (81) from Nagar Tea Estate in Cachar, Saffique Uddin Barbhuiya (45) from Gossainpur in Cachar and Rumi Akhtar Laskar (22) from Lalamukh in Hailakandi district. However, details of another person who died in Karimganj was not available till the filing of this report.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 2 June, there were 307 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 96 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 211 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 31 patients were put under ventilator support and 117 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 45 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 56 of them were discharged. Further, 48 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 110 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 110 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 106 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 04 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,467 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,013 RAT tests and 281 RT-PCR tests were done. 128 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 82 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,461.

As of now, in the 55,667 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,354 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 85 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Of the 85 active cases detected on Wednesday, 80 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test, whereas 05 were tested positive under RT-PCR. The district has currently 1,202 active COVID-19 cases, while 46 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Wednessday. 2,858 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 69 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, out of 1,02,922 tests, 4,178 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,20,076. The positivity rate in the state is 4.06 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 383 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 61 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,477. The recovery rate is 86.51 percent. On Wednesday, 4,389 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,64,191 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 51,061 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 61 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 61 deceased, 05 are from Karbi Anglong; 04 each from Cachar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro, Sonitpur & Tinsukia; 03 each from Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar & Udalguri; 02 each from Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar & Morigaon; 01 each from Charaideo, Chirang, Golaghat & South Salmara. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,477.
