Barak Valley registers 463 Covid-19 +ve cases on Sunday, 8 deaths at SMCH

Active cases 3,937 in Barak Valley

May 23: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 463 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 818 positive cases. At present, there are 3,937 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 302 positive cases   (It was 630 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 58 positive cases (It was 83 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 103 positive cases (It was 105 on Saturday)

A total of 302 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Sunday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 2,089 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 223 persons were found positive, whereas 79 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Sunday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 6,854 in 2021, whereas during the year, 4,357 patients were discharged. Also, 199 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,444.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 08 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 08 deceased, 06 are from Cachar district, 01 each from Hailakandi and Karimganj.

The deceased were identified as: Mintu Deb (60) from Tarapur (2md Gate), Silchar, Sarifa Khanan Barbhuiya (65) from Dubag in Cachar district, Nirod Roy (65) from Harishnagar in Hailakandi district, Pradip Mura (45) from Kumba in Cachar, Priti Deb (52) from Nivea in Karimganj district, Mahendra Singh (56) from Tarapur, Silchar, Mangal Das (63) from Tarapur, Silchar and Mukul Mandol (57) from Mazumder Lane, Rongpur, Silchar.

Hailakandi registered 103 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 103 positive cases detected on Sunday, 94 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 09 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 767 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,760 RAT tests and 303 RT-PCR tests were done. 81 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 83 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 5,260.

As of now, in the 18 plus category, 10,055 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine. In the 45 plus category, 50,635 have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, whereas, 14,942 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 58 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Of the 58 active cases detected on Sunday, 52 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 06 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 726 active COVID-19 cases, while 75 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Sunday. 1,378 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 105 positives cases were detected in Karimganj on Saturday.

On Sunday, out of 62,722 tests, 3,563 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,69,183. The positivity rate in the state is 5.68 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 624 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 72 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,739. On Sunday, 5,785 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,13,333 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 72 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 72 deceased, 11 are from Kamrup Metro; 08 from Dibrugarh; 06 each from Golaghat, Dibrugarh & Kamrup Rural; 05 each from Cachar & Nagaon; 04 from Karbi Anglong; 03 each from Barpeta, bongaigaon, Darrang & Nalbari; 02 from Tinsukia; 01 each from Biswanath, Goalpara, Morigaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,739.
