Barak Valley registers 399 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday, 63 discharged

There are 1,365 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 12: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 399 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 63 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,365 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 465 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 214 positive cases   (It was 269 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 109 positive cases (It was 87 on Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi:  76 positive cases (It was 109 on Tuesday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Wednesday at 6.50 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 200-mark in Wednesday also. A total of 214 persons were found positive in the district on 12 January. Also, 42 patients were discharged (14 from hospital & 28 from home) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 780, out of which, 680 are in home isolation whereas 100 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Tuesday, 269 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 1,800 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 144 persons were found positive, whereas 70 were detected positive out of 483 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 21,496 whereas during this phase, 20,493 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 11 January to 12 noon of 12 January, 2022.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 11 January to 5 PM on 12 January) did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Wednesday evening.

The deceased identified as Jahura Begum (49) from Ward No. 22, Silchar tested Covid positive and was admitted at SMCH on 11 January (1.13 PM). The patient, however, breathed her last at 3.30 PM on 12 January, 2022. Prior to this, another Covid patient, Subir Chakraborty (69) from Das Colony, Silchar died at SMCH on 10 January.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 12 January, there were 33 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 02 patients were put under ventilator support, and 05 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 13 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 03 were discharged. Further, 07 patients were shifted to Covid Care Centre and 51 opted for home isolation.

On Wednesday, Hailakandi registered 76 (76 RAT & 00 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 298 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 893 RAT tests and 100 RT-PCR tests were done. 07 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,251 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,526 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 109 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday. Till date, 51 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 351 persons were vaccinated on Tuesday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 109 fresh COVID case on Wednesday. The district has currently 287 active COVID cases, while 14 patients were discharged on Wednesday. 843 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 87 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, out of 49,915 tests, 3,274 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,35,770. The positivity rate in the state is 6.56 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1.138 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 04 died in the state due to COVID-19. The deceased are from Nalbari & Sonitpur and Cachar. The death toll in the state stands at 6,189. The recovery rate is 96.96 percent. Also, 731 patients were discharged during the day. At present, there are 11,792 active cases in the state.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 1,94,720 fresh Covid-19 cases and 442 deaths as the daily positivity rate of infections stood at 11.05%. According to the data updated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at 8 AM on Wednesday (January 12, 2022), the country also witnessed 442 related deaths. The active caseload of the country has increased 9,55,319. The country’s Omicron tally has now also surged to 4,868, of which, 1,805 patients have either been discharged, recovered or migrated. As many as 28 states and union territories have so far reported cases of the new COVID-19 variant including Maharashtra (1,281), Rajasthan (645), Delhi (546), Karnataka (479) and Kerala (350).
