Barak Valley registers 359 Covid +ve cases on Sunday, 257 discharged & 1 death at SMCH

There are 2,607 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 16: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 359 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 257 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 2,607 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Saturday, Barak Valley registered 412 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 289 positive cases   (It was 248 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 40 positive cases (It was 98 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi:  30 positive cases (It was 66 on Saturday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Sunday at 7.40 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 200-mark on Sunday. A total of 289 persons were found positive in the district on 16 January. Also, 205 patients were discharged (184 from hospital & 21 from home) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,622 out of which, 1,455 are in home isolation whereas 167 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Saturday, 248 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 1,159 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 164 persons were found positive, whereas 125 were detected positive out of 294 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 2,283 whereas during this phase, 656 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 15 January to 12 noon of 16 January, 2022. Further, a total of 5 persons died due to Covid in Cachar this year.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 15 January to 5 PM on 16 January) witnessed the death of 01 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Sunday evening.

The deceased identified as Lukman Ali Laskar (58) from Lakhipur in Cachar tested Covid positive and was admitted at SMCH on 08 January (1.19 PM). The patient, however, breathed his last at 11.45 AM on 16 January, 2022.He was suffering from diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney diseases. Prior to this, another Covid patient, Jahura Begum (49) from Ward No. 22, Silchar died at SMCH on 11 January.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 16 January, there were 32 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 03 patients were put under ventilator support, and 13 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 07 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 08 were discharged.

On Sunday, Hailakandi registered 30 (30 RAT & 00 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 491 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 291 RAT tests and 05 RT-PCR tests were done. 06 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,607 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,589 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 66 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Saturday. Till date, 51 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 297 persons were vaccinated on Sunday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 40 fresh COVID case on Sunday. The district has currently 594 active COVID cases, while 46 patients were discharged on Sunday. 371 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 92 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Saturday.

On Sunday, out of 30,146 tests, 2,709 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,46,735. The positivity rate in the state is 8.99 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 912 positive cases during the day. Further, on Sunday, 05 died in the state due to COVID-19. The deceased are from Jorhat (2), Kamrup Metro (1), Morigaon (1) and Nalbari (1). The death toll in the state stands at 6,206. The recovery rate is 95.85 percent. Also, 1,223 patients were discharged during the day. At present, there are 19,258 active cases in the state.

India logged 2,71,202 new Covid cases, marginally higher than yesterday, while the active cases rose to 15,50,377 according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday. As many as 314 people have died of Covid during the past 24-hour period, according to the Health Ministry. Further, 1,38,331 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours. A total of 3,50,85,721 patients were recovered till now. Apart from this, 7,743 Omicron cases were detected so far, which means an increase of 28.17% since yesterday. The daily positivity rate stands at 16.28%.
