Barak Valley registers 343 Covid +ve cases on Tuesday; 2 deaths registered

Active cases 1088 in Barak Valley

May 4: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased. A total of 343 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 239 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 248 positive cases   (It was also 169 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 62 positive cases (It was 35 on  Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 33 positive cases (It was 35 on Monday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 248 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Tuesday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 709. As per the updated data, a total of 2,107 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 127 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 121 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar onTuesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 13,288. Again, 12,429 patients till now were cured and discharged.

Two more deaths were registered in Barak Valley, one at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and the other at Green Heals Pvt Hospital, Silchar on Tuesday. The two deceased are: Situ Roy (60) from Tarapur and Lipika Choudhury (50) from Rangirkhari. As per protocol, their death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.

Hailakandi reported 33 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,603. Of the 33 active cases detected on Tuesday, 32 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test. Results of 375 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

The district has altogether 148 active COVID-19 cases while 3,431 patients have recuperated from the disease. 21 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, six at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 114 kept under home isolation, five in other districts and two absconding.

On Tuesday, out of 706 Covid tests done, 62 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. This is the highest single day spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Karimganj this year.  Further, during the day, 26 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 231 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Monday, 35 persons were found positive in Karimganj.

On Tuesday, out of 55,003 tests, 4,475 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,67,925. The positivity rate in the state is 8.14 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,1417 positive cases during the day. Further, on Tuesday, 41 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19, the highest single day death toll in Assam in 2021. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,430. It needs mention here that on Monday, 4,489 persons tested positive in Assam and 29 deaths were registered. On Tuesday, 2,851 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,37,088 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged

Further, during the day, 41 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day spike in the state this year. Out of the 41 deceased, 15 are from Kamrup Metro, 4 from Bongaigaon, 3 each from Jorhat and Udalguri, 2 each from Golaghat, Darrang, Kamrup Rural and Tinsukia; 1 each from Baksha, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari & Sonitpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,430.
