Barak Valley registers 308 positive cases on Saturday

August 29: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases somewhat decreased in the valley in comparison to the past few days. A total of 308 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 364 positive cases. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 1 more death at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) The decased identified as Renuka Roy (72) is from Station Road in Karimganj district. She was admitted at SMCH at 4.30 PM on 25 August. She died at 10 AM on 29 August. Her death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

• Cachar: 158 positive cases   (It was 167 on Friday)
• Karimganj: 70 positive cases (It was 62 on  Friday)
• Hailakandi: 80 positive cases (It was 135 on Friday)

A total of 158 new cases of COVID-19 were detected from across Cachar district on Saturday. Out of the 147 fresh cases, 142 of them were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas the rest 16 were detected positive in the RT-PCR Test.

With this, the total tally of coronavirus patients detected in Cachar till now has gone upto 6152. Out of this, 4547 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 1582 active cases of COVID-19 in Cachar district. Further, one patient from Karimganj died at SMCH due to COVID-19 at SMCH during the day.

As of now, Cachar district has registered 25 COVID-19 deaths. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said during a press briefing in Guwahati on Saturday that in the state, the position of Cachar is at 3rd slot in terms of death of COVID-19 patients, which is indeed a matter of great concern. Further, in the state, 433 Covid patients are now administered oxygen in various government and private hospitals of the state. Out of the 433 patients, 60 of them are on oxygen support at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Further, work for a new block of 40-bedded ICU at SMCH is in progress and will be functional by the first part of September.

80 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Saturday, taking the total tally to 2,248. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 80 positive cases, 26 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while 54 under RT-PCR.

Altogether 1,159 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,722 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 511. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nine deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 113 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation. Of the 21,177 swab samples taken, 16,314 have tested negative. Swab results of 2,894 persons are awaited.

Karimganj district registered 70 new COVID-19 positive cases on Saturday. Out of 70 positive cases,53 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 17 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. As of now, a total of 2229 persons tested positive in the district. Till now, 1487 persons were discharged in Karimganj. At present, there are 742 active cases in the district.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2427 persons tested positive in Assam on Saturday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,03,794. As of now, there are 20,992 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,440 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 82,510 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 03 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 289.

India on Saturday logged its highest ever single-day spike of 76,472 Covid-19 cases and 1,021 deaths, pushing the country’s tally to over 3.46 million. This is the third consecutive day where more than 75,000 cases have been registered. The total cases include 752,424 active cases, over 2.6 million recoveries and 62,550 deaths.
