Barak Valley registers 275 positive cases on Thursday
August 20: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 275 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wenesday, Barak Valley registered 270 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 175 positive cases (It was 190 on Wednesday)
- Karimganj: 57 positive cases (It was 27 on Wednesday)
- Hailakandi: 43 positive cases (It was 53 on Wednesday)
On Thursday, a total of 190 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Cachar district. Out of the 175 new positive cases recorded on Thursday, 131 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, the rest 44 were tested positive in RT-PCR Test. Further, the death tally of the district due to novel coronavirus has gone upto 18. It needs mention here that there were 190 positive cases in Cachar on Wednesday.
Many of the technicians and those staff involved in swab collection were found positive in Cachar. As a result, some screening centres like Urban PHC at Trunk Road, Teachers’ Training College at Link Road Point and Holy Cross HS School at Sonai Road were temporarily closed. However, testing facility is open at ISBT and SM Dev Civil Hospital.
Further, one patient, Ashu Ranjan Sarkar (77) from Link Road, Silchar died on Thursday. He was admitted at Green Heals Hospital on Wednesday at 2 PM. The patient died at 10 AM on Thursday. Apart from being corona positive, the patient also had other co-morbidities. His case was referred for the opinion of State Death Audit Board.
A 9-day-old baby was found positive from Udharbond presently undergoing treatment at SMCH. The baby exhibited Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) symptoms. Dr. Dharmendra Kumar (31) from New Boy’s Hostel, SMCH was found symptomatic. Two female health workers, one aged 19 & the other aged 25 were also found symptomatic. They are from Cachar cancer Hospital & Research Centre.
43 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Thursday, taking the total tally to 1,825.Health authorities here disclosed that all the 43 positive cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Altogether 918 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,348 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 465.
Five COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Seven deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. Only three persons are currently under facility quarantine centres while 115 numbers of COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation.
Karimganj district registered 57 new COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday. Out of 57 positive cases, 29 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 28 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Till now, 1773 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 713 patients have recovered. The district also witnessed one more COVID-19 death. The deceased was identified as Shukla Dutta (60).
Apart from the valley, a total of 1735 persons tested positive in Assam on Thursday, thereby taking the state tally to 86,052. As of now, there are 22,708 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2772 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 63,120 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 08 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 221.
The highest-ever increase of 69,652 covid-19 positive cases, and 977 deaths were reported in India, in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 tally in the country rises to 28,36,926 including 6,86,395 active cases, 20,96,665 cured/discharged/migrated & 53,866 deaths, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 58,794 patients were cured in last 24 hours. “India scales a new peak in daily testing. More than 9 lakh COVID19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate comes down below 8 per cent,” the Ministry tweeted.
