Barak Valley registers 270 positive cases on Wednesday

August 19: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Wednesday, the number of fresh cases was somewhat less in the valley. compared to the previous day. A total of 270 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 370 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 190 positive cases   (It was 244 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 27 positive cases (It was 84 on Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi: 53 positive cases (It was 42 on Tuesday)

On Wednesday, a total of 190 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Cachar district. A total of 1508 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was done on Wednesday in Cachar. 130 persons were detected positive in RAT Test, whereas, 60 persons were found positive in 4 slots of RT-PCR Test (1st slot=16 positive cases, 2nd slot=13 positive cases, 3rd slot=28 positive cases and 4th slot=03 positive cases). With this, the district tally of coronavirus positive cases has reached 4663 as of now.

Further, two more persons from Cachar district died due to COVID-19. The deceased were identified as Bimolendu Chakraborty (84) and Sitangshu Chanda (78). With this, the death tally of the district has now gone upto 18.

53 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 1,782. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 53 positive cases detected on Wednesday, 44 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and nine under RT-PCR. During the day, another person died due to COVID-19. The deceased was identified as Bimalnandu Ray (64).

Altogether 875 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,317 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 454. Four COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Seven deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. Six persons are currently under facility quarantine centres while 97 numbers of COVID-19 patients are under home isolation.

Karimganj district registered 27 new COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday. Out of 27 positive cases, 21 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 06 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Further, 18 persons were discharged during the day. Till now, 1716 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 704 patients have recovered. During the day, 600 Rapid Antigen Tests were done. The district also witnessed two more COVID-19 deaths at SMCH. The two deceased were identified as Kalyanbrata Choudhury (50) and Ranjana Bhattacharjee (51).

Apart from the valley, a total of 2116 persons tested positive in Assam on Wednesday, thereby taking the state tally to 84,317. As of now, there are 23,753 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2054 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 60,348 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 10 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 213.

India registered a spike of 64,531 new COVID-19 cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall coronavirus toll in the country to 27,67,274. The death toll due to the deadly pathogen also crossed the 52,000-mark and even inches closer to 53,000-mark after 1,092 new fatalities were recorded from across the country during the last 24 hours. The death toll in the country stood at 52,889 deaths.  Of the total 27,67,274 cases in the country, 6,76,514 are active cases, while 20,37,871 people have been cured and discharged from the hospitals across the country. 

Worldwide there are 22,295,983 million coronavirus cases and 783,491 confirmed deaths, according to worldometer.
