Barak Valley registers 265 Covid +ve cases on Monday, 329 discharged & 2 deaths recorded

There are 3,149 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 21: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 265 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day.  Further, during the day, 329 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,149 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 150 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 181 positive cases   (It was 98 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 66 positive cases (It was 39 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 18 positive cases (It was 13 on Sunday)

 A total of 181 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 23,083 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 156 persons were found positive, whereas 25 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 16,572, whereas during this phase, 14,794 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,620.  Also, 208 patients were discharged during the day. Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 20 June to 5 PM on 21 June) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the two deceased, one of them is from Cachar, while the other is from Karimganj .

The deceased were identified as Rakhal Chandra Dey (76) from Kathal Road in Cachar district and Riaz-ul Haque (05 years) from Kanishail in Karimganj.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 21 June, there were 122 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 71 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 51 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 10 patients were put under ventilator support and 92 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 15 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 26 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 18 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 18 positive cases detected on Monday, 14 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 04 persons were found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 515 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,218 RAT tests and 521 RT-PCR tests were done. 74 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,387. As of now, a total of 3,455 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 13 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday.

As of now, in the 63,156 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 18,256 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district. Further, the district had set a target of vaccinating 8,400 persons during the mega drive on Monday. Till 6 PM on Monday, 8,504 persons were vaccinated under this mega drive.

Karimganj registered 66 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The district has currently 1,014 active COVID-19 cases, while 47 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 4,687 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 39 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Sunday.

On Monday, out of 1,70,856 tests, 2,805 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,85,310. The positivity rate in the state is 1.64 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 158 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 35 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,243. The recovery rate is 92.40 percent. On Monday, 3,699 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,48,442 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. The recovery rate in the state is 92.40 percent.  At present, there are 31,278 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 35 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 35 deceased, 06 are from Tinsukia; 04 from Kamrup Metro; 03 each from Cachar, Morigaon & Nagaon; 02 each from Goalpara, Hojai & Morigaon; 01 each from Barpeta, Biswanath, Golaghat, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Nalbari & Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,243.
