Barak Valley registers 263 Covid +ve cases on Friday; 4 deaths registered

Active cases 2,472 in Barak Valley

May 14: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 263 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 571 positive cases. At present, there are 2,472 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 180 positive cases   (It was 398 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 34 positive cases (It was 92 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi: 49 positive cases (It was 81 on Thursday)

A total of 180 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 957 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 98 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 82 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Friday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 3,841 in 2021, whereas during the year, 2,601 patients were discharged.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. Friday witnessed demise of 04 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 04 deceased at SMCH on 14 May, 03 of them are from Cachar district, while 01 of them is from Karimganj district. The 04 deceased were identified as Gita Dhar (55) from Patharkandi in Karimganj, Ronendra Roy (51) from Dolu, Kalinagar in Cachar, Sikha Bhattacharjee (55) from Katigorah in Cachar and Monoranjan Das (55) from Kalain in Cachar.

Hailakandi registered 34 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 34 positive cases detected on Friday, 30 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 04 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 538 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 265 RAT tests and 00 RT-PCR tests were done. 40 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 81 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 4,309.

Karimganj reported 49 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,691. Of the 49 active cases detected on Friday, 42 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and seven under RT-PCR. It needs mention here that on Thursday, 92 persons were detected as Covid positive in Karimganj

The district has altogether 720 active COVID-19 cases while 104 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Friday. 1,035 swab samples were collected on Friday. Altogether 2,46,311 samples have been tested so far. The district has currently 14 active containment zones.

On Friday, out of 44,057 tests, 4,078 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,19,632. The positivity rate in the state is 9.26 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,107 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 76 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,060. On Friday, 4,168 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,74,247 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged

Further, during the day, 76 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 76 deceased, 20 are from Kamrup Metro; 6 from Tinsukia; 5 each from Kamrup Rural & Kokhrajhar; 4 each from Barpeta, Nalbari, Dibrugarh & Sonitpur; 3 each from Karbi Anglong & South Salmara; 2 each from Baksha, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Karimganj & Nagaon; 1 each from Cachar, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur & Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,060.
