Barak Valley registers 239 Covid +ve cases on Monday; 3 deaths at SMCH

May 3: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased. A total of 239 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 178 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

• Cachar: 169 positive cases   (It was also 148 on Sunday)
• Karimganj: 35 positive cases (It was 19 on  Sunday)
• Hailakandi: 35 positive cases (It was 11 on Sunday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 169 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Monday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 668. As per the updated data, a total of 1,808 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 112  persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 57 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Monday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 13,119. Again,12,302 patients till now were cured and discharged. 74 persons were discharged on Monday.

Three more deaths were registered at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Monday. Out of the three, one of them is from Cachar, while the rest two are from Karimganj district. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday. The three deceased are: Pinak Pani Chakraborty (77), Mrinal Kanti Dey (58) and Debobala Sinha (57). As per protocol, their death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.

Hailakandi registered the highest number of 35 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,570. This is the highest single day spike in the number of positive cases in this year.  With these new cases, the district has altogether 127 active COVID-19 cases while 3,419 patients have been discharged.

22 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, one at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 98 kept thunder home isolation and four in other districts. Altogether 1,81,454 samples for COVID-19 have been tested so far, including 905 samples taken in the last 24 hours. Results of 298 samples are awaited from SMC&H. The district has accounted for 10 COVID deaths.

On Monday, out of 1,022 Covid tests done, 35 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. Further, during the day, 27 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 197 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Sunday, 19 persons were found positive in Karimganj.

On Monday, out of 55,939 tests, 4,489 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. This is the highest single day spike in coronavirus cases in 2021. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,63,450. The positivity rate in the state is 8.02 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,645 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 29 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,389. It needs mention here that on Sunday, 2,385 persons tested positive in Assam and 30 deaths were registered. On Monday, 2,534 patients were discharged in Assam.

Further, during the day, 29 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 29 deceased, 13 are from Kamrup Metro, 4 from Dibrugarh, 3 from Karimganj, 2 from Udalguri, 1 each from Bongaigaon, Cachar, Goalpara, Kamrup Rural, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,389.
