Barak Valley registers 216 positive cases on Monday
August 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 216 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 198 positive cases. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 5 more deaths, out of which, 4 died in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and 1 at Green Heals Hospital.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 136 positive cases (It was 134 on Sunday)
- Karimganj: 29 positive cases (It was 48 on Sunday)
- Hailakandi: 51 positive cases (It was 16 on Sunday)
On Monday, 136 more positive cases were detected from Cachar district. A total of 846 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done during the day, out of which, 81 persons tested positive. Whereas, another 55 positive cases were detected in three slots of RT-PCR Test (1st slot: 28 Positive, 2nd slot: 24 positive & 3rd slot: 03).
However, what seems to be a matter of great concern is that a total of 13 positive cases were reported on Monday from Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC). Their names were included in the 2nd slot of RT-PCR Test. As per sources, all 13 positive detected at CCHRC on Monday are patients admitted over there for treatment. It needs mention here that two doctors of the Cancer Hospital were already detected positive. Apart from them, 12 staff, majority of them from the radiation section of the hospital were also found positive over the last few days. The positive patients were kept in an Isolation Ward within the hospital campus. The source at CCHRC also revealed that there is a huge rush of patients at present as those who used to go earlier in Mumbai, Kolkata, South India for treatment are unable to move out due to the ongoing pandemic.
Further, Cachar registered 3 more COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. The deceased were identified as Debobrata Deb (48), Shila Begum Mazumdar (48) & Srinibash Kangsa Banik (64).
51 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Monday, taking the total tally to 1,973. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 51’positive cases, 34 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Altogether 1,030 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,527 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 431. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nine deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 115 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation.
Karimganj district registered 29 new COVID-19 positive cases on Monday. Out of 29 positive cases, 20 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 09 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Till now, 1842 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 736 patients have recovered. During the day, 20 patients were also discharged. The district also witnessed one more COVID-19 death. The deceased was identified as Ranadhir Sharma (75) from Badarpur in Karimganj district. He was admitted at SMCH at 5.06 PM on 22 August. He died at 1.40 AM on 24 August. His death was certified as Covid-19 death by the State Death Audit Board.
Apart from the valley, a total of 1879 persons tested positive in Assam on Monday, thereby taking the state tally to 92,619. As of now, there are 19,274 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2,190 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 73,090 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 10 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 252.
A single-day spike of 61,408 infections has taken India’s coronavirus caseload to 31,06,348, data from the Union Health Ministry on Monday morning. The number of deaths climbed to 57,542 with 836 people dying of the disease in a span of 24 hours. Recoveries among COVID-19 patients in the country surged to 23,38,035, pushing India’s recovery rate to 75.27 per cent. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil.
