Barak Valley registers 215 +ve cases on Wednesday, 4 deaths registered

Sept. 30: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 215 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 205 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 152 positive cases   (It was 133 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 36 positive cases (It was 27 on  Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi: 27 positive cases (It was 45 on Tuesday)

Once again, COVID-19 deaths were registered in Barak Valley in the last 24 hours. Four more persons succumbed to COVID-19 in the valley, out of which, 03 are from Cachar and 01 from Karimganj. The deceased were identified as: Parvej Hussain (age: 18 days) from Lathigram in Udharbond was admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in the afternoon on 29 September. The baby, however, died at 8.55 PM on the same day. (non-Covid death). Arati Chakraborty (75) from Udharbond was admitted at SMCH in the morning on 24 September. She breathed his last at 9.44 AM on 30 September. (Non-Covid death)

Sanjay Sur (25) from Malugram was admitted at Valley Hospital on 25 September. He succumbed to the infection on 29 September. (Covid death). Bani Paul Choudhury (80) from Karimganj died in her home district. (Covid death).

On Wednesday, a total of 152 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar district. During the day, 7054 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 128 persons were found positive, whereas 24 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Wednesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 9,147. It needs mention here that 133 persons were found positive in Cachar on Tuesday.

In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Wednesday said that in the last 24 hours, 176 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 392 persons were collected. 525 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 27 of them tested positive. Further, 132 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 04 were found positive.

Apart from this, 13 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 10 were discharged. At present, there are 104 active patients at SMCH,out of which, 16 are admitted in ICU and 03 in ventilation. 19 patients are now in critical condition. Another 12 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 177 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 329 patients.

27 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 3,091. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 27 positive cases, 26 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Altogether 4,135 swab samples were taken on Wednesday – the highest recorded so far in the district. The number of active cases is 226.

On Wednesday, 36 new cases of COVID-19 were reported from Karimganj district. A total of 5266 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done during the day, out of which, 36 were found positive. 29 patients were discharged during the day. 13,694 tests were conducted during the last 3 days in Karimganj, in which 119 tested positive. The positivity rate is less than 1 percent. Till now, 3886 persons tested positive in the district.

On Wednesday, a  total of 1,48,780 tests were done in Assam, out of which, 3590 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive. With this, the state tally of novel coronavirus has now gone upto 1,80,811, out of which 34,496 are active cases. During the day, 1616 patients were discharged. Further, during the day, another 17 persons died due to COVID-19, thereby taking the death toll of the state to 697.
