Barak Valley registers 181 positive cases on Thursday
July 30: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 181 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 157 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 124 positive cases (It was 104 on Wednesday)
- Karimganj: 36 positive cases (It was 25 on Wednesday)
- Hailakandi: 21 positive cases (It was 28 on Wednesday)
With 124 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Thursday, Cachar recorded a total of 1625 cases of coronavirus as of now. A large number of positive cases on Thursday were detected through contact tracing. Apart from this, cases on account of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) were also also found during the day. “What has come as matter of tension to the district health department is that the number of symptomatic cases are on the rise in Cachar. Earlier during the month, there was a decrease in the number of symptomatic cases, but now many patients with SARI & ILI symptoms are found in Cachar. We are sending these symptomatic patients to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH),” said Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert.
He further informed that 2 more COVID-19 positive patients have died in Cachar. Their details were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. The Board will give the final report as to whether these two deaths are exclusively due to coronavirus or not. The deceased were identified as Amarendra Biswas (55) from Ghoniala in Silchar and Mousumi Chanda Choudhury (21) daughter of Subhas Chandra Choudhury (21) from Borjalenga. Suman Choudhury said, “Though they were positive cases, but unless we get the report from Death Audit Board, we cannot categorise them as COVID deaths.” Both the deceased were admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in a critical condition.
Further, among others, a doctor in Dermatology Department of SMCH also tested positive on Wednesday. He was detected through contact tracing and is asymptomatic. Dr. Dawipayan Deb (26) from Sonai Road also tested positive. He is asymptomatic. he came in direct contact with a high risk lab confirmed case. He too is asymptomatic. In the 4th slot, Dr. Shabir Ahmed Choudhury (31) from new PG Hostel of SMCH also tested positive.
He also stated that the last rites of the two deceased will be performed in their own localities. He said, “Yesterday also, a patient who died due to COVID was creamed at Silchar crematorium in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and MLA Silchar. As because there arises no scope of any contamination from the dead body, so the government has decided to perform the last rites of the COVID related deceased in their respective areas.

On Thursday, 21 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 910. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 21 positive cases on Thursday, five cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 166 swab results turned out to be negative.A total of 119 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them without travel history. 43 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Thursday, taking the total number of persons released to 788. The number of active cases in the district is currently 118.
Karimganj district recorded 36 COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday including Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Deb. Out of the 36 positive cases, 23 of them were detected through Rapid Antigen Test. As of now, 656 persons were infected with coronavirus in the district, out of which 441 patients were cured and discharged. 10 patients were discharged on Thursday in Karimganj.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2112 persons tested positive in Assam on Thursday, thereby taking the state tally to 38,407. As of now, there are 9230 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1248 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 29,080 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 2 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 94.
With 52,123 people testing positive for coronavirus in a day, India’s COVID-19 tally near 16 lakh mark today, while the recoveries jumped to 9,88,029. The country’s death toll rose to 34,968 with 775 fatalities being recorded in a day. The fatality from covid currently stands at 2.23% in India as compared to global average of about 4%. Total COVID19 positive cases stand at 15,83,792 including 5,28,242 active cases, 10,20,582 cured/discharged/migrated and 34,968 deaths, the health ministry said. 32,553 COVID-19 patients were cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate stand at 64.51%.
