Barak Valley registers 180 Covid-19 +ve cases on Saturday; 66 patients discharged

Active cases 901 in Barak Valley

May 1: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 180 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 211 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 124 positive cases   (It was also 108 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 33 positive cases (It was 46 on  Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 23 positive cases (It was 17 on Friday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 124 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Thursday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 608. During the day, 3,166 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 109 persons were found positive, whereas 39 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Saturday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 12,861. Again, 12,105 patients till now were cured and discharged. A total of 37 patients were discharged on Saturday.

Apart from this Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed informed that out of the 608 active patients, 75 of them are admitted at SMCH, 12 in MH, 20 at SMDCH, 28 at Green Heals Pvt Hospital, 02 at CRPF Doyapur and 09 at Gracewell Nursing Home. Further, 462 patients are in home isolation. No Covid-19 related deaths were registered in the district on 1 May, 2021.

23 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours in Hailakandi, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,524. With these new cases, the district has altogether 103 active COVID-19 cases while 3,397 patients have been discharged. 24 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, two at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 74 kept under home isolation and three in other districts.

COVID-19 claimed its first victim in the second wave in South Assam’s Hailakandi district. Pappu Nath, a 26 year old youth from Katlicherra was admitted on April 22 with alleged history of ingestion of unknown substance. He was found COVID positive under RAT on admission. The patient had aspiration pneumonitis and had sepsis with AKI and required vasopressors. His condition deteriorated with passage of time and he expired on Friday at around 5.15 pm.

On Friday, out of 1,946 Covid tests done, 33 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. Further, during the day, 06 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 190 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Friday, 66 persons were found positive in Karimganj.

On Saturday, out of 54,002 tests, 3,453 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,56,576. The positivity rate in the state is 6.39 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,417 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday again, 23 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,330. At present, there are 25,027 active cases in Assam. It needs mention here that on Friday, 3,197 persons tested positive in Assam and 26 deaths were registered. On Saturday, 2,229 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,28,872 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 23 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 23 deceased, 09 are from Kamrup Metro, 3 from Barpeta, 2 each from Cachar and Tinsukia; 01 each from Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Sonitpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,330.
