Barak Valley registers 143 positive cases on Friday
August 15: After almost a week’s spike, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam came down. On Friday, the number of fresh cases was much less in the valley in comparison to the previous day. A total of 143 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 396 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 97 positive cases (It was 307 on Thursday)
- Karimganj: 12 positive cases (It was 17 on Thursday)
- Hailakandi: 34 positive cases (It was 72 on Thursday)
On Friday, 97 new cases of coronavirus positive were detected in Cachar. Out of this, 17 persons were detected positive in 5 slots of RT-PCR Test, whereas, 80 of them were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). On Friday, 1184 Rapid tests were done in Cachar. This was disclosed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert.
As per the available data, a total of 3757 persons were found positive in Cachar district as of now. Out of them, 2159 persons were cured and subsequently discharged from hospitals and Covid Care Centres. At present, there are 1587 active cases in Cachar. Further, the COVID-19 death tally of the district has gone upto 11.
34 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Friday, taking the total tally to 1,582. One person named Rahmat Ali Choudhury, 49, Imam of Jame Masjid, Lala succumbed to the disease on Friday taking the death toll due to COVID to three. Seven patients died due to non-COVID at SMC&H.
Health authorities here disclosed that of the 34 positive cases detected on Friday, 29 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Altogether 705 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,114 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals.The number of active cases in the district is currently 458.
Karimganj district registered only 12 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday. The health department has appealed to people to come voluntarily for testing. Rapid Antigen tests were conducted in many parts of the district. Further, 17 more patients were also discharged during the last 24 hours.
Karimganj recorded a total of 1453 COVID-19 patients as of now, out of which, 727 were cured and subsequently discharged. There are 726 active cases in the district now.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2706 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 74,501. As of now, there are 22,630 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 2310 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 51,693 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 6 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 175.
In another steep rise in its single-day cases, India has reported 64,553 fresh Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours. With 1,007 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours across the country, the Covid-19 death toll in India has jumped to 48,040. With this, India’s total Covid-19 count rises to 24,61,191 which includes 6,61,595 active cases and 17,51,556 patients who have been cured from the disease or discharged from hospitals, Ministry of Health stated on Friday.
