Barak Valley registers 138 Covid +ve cases on Monday, 315 discharged

There are 1,811 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased. A total of 138 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 315 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,811 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 72 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 72 positive cases   (It was 48 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 45 positive cases (It was 20 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 21 positive cases (It was 04 on Sunday)

 A total of 72 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 7,315 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 55 persons were found positive, whereas 17 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,482, whereas during this phase, 16,488 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 828.  Also, 204 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley for more than a month. However, for the second consecutive day, Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) did not witness the demise of any Covid-19 positive patient. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Monday evening. This is of course a ray of hope.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 28 June, there were 130 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 53 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 77 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 12 patients were put under ventilator support and 82 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 17 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 19 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 21 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 21 positive cases detected on Monday, 21 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas none were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 242 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,756 RAT tests and 327 RT-PCR tests were done. 35 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,488. As of now, a total of 3,827 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 04 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday.

Karimganj registered 45 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The district has currently 741 active COVID-19 cases, while 76 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 4,286 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 20 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Monday.

On Monday, out of 1,33,543 tests, 2,689 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,03,333. The positivity rate in the state is 2.01 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 164 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 42 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. The recovery rate is 93.87 percent. On Monday, 3,394 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,72,461 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 25,043 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 42 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 42 deceased, 06 are from Sonitpur; 04 from Kamrup Metro; 03 each from Jorhat, Lakhimpur & Nagaon; 02 each from Baksa, Barpeta, Goalpara, Hojai, Kamrup Rural & Tinsukia; 01 each from Biswanath, Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Karbianglong, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nalbari & Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,482.
