Barak Valley registers 105 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 79 discharged & 3 deaths reported

There are 684 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 17: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased again. A total of 105 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 79 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 684 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 78 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 87 positive cases   (It was 54 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 11 positive cases (It was 16 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 07 positive cases (It was 08 on Friday)

A total of 87 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,901 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 50 persons were found positive, whereas 27 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 18,503 whereas during this phase, 17,992 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 334. Also, 41 patients were discharged during the day.  The Covid-19 situation in Cachar is gradually improving. There has been substantial decline in the number of daily positive cases. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 16 July to 5 PM on 17 July) witnessed the death of 03 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Saturday evening. Out of the three deceased, two are from Cachar and 01 from Karimganj.

The deceased were identified as S Dhananjoy Singha (80) from Lakhipur in Cachar district, Sikha Paul (60) from Lane No.2 at Bilpar, Silchar and Ryaz Ali (64) from Bazaricherra in Karimganj district took admission as SMCH on 11 July. He died at 11 AM on 17 July.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 17 July, there were 75 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 53 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 22 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 05 patients were put under ventilator support and 62 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 12 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 10 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered 07 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 07 positive cases detected on Saturday, all 07 of them have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas none were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 96 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,708 RAT tests and 256 RT-PCR tests were done. 15 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,693 (both 1st & 2nd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,174 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 08 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. Till date 48 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district. Further, on Saturday, 1,937 persons were administered Covid vaccine (2nd dose only) in Hailakandi (till 5 PM).

Karimganj registered 11 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 254 active COVID-19 cases, while 23 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Friday. 3,153 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 16 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,33,760 tests, 1,727 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,45,954. The positivity rate in the state is 1.29 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 250 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 23 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,984. The recovery rate is 95.65 percent. On Saturday, 2,495 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 5,22,192 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 17,431 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 23 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 23 deceased, 03 are from Jorhat & Sivasagar; 02 each are from Cachar, Golaghat & Sonitpur; 01 each from Barpeta, Biswanath, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Tinsukia & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,984.
