Barak flowing 0.45 meters above danger level, alert message issued, ferry service closed

Water Level at Annapurna Ghat at 9 PM is 20.28 meters

July 13: Incessant rains has resulted in rising level of water in river Barak along with all its tributaries. In an alert message issued by the Cachar District Administration, it was stated that due to incessant rains from the last few days, water level of all the rivers was rising. Further, weather forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), revealed that heavy rainfall would occur in the entire North East Region till 15 July, 2019.

It is in this backdrop that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar has directed all Circle Officers, SDO’s, Heads of Offices of of State Government within the district to stay alert and inform all concerned sub-ordinate under their respective area of operation to be alert and stay in the station until further order. They were also asked to jump into the response and relief action, if situation demands, without any delay.Further, the Cachar District Administration also notified that all ferry service within its jurisdiction will remain close until further notice. No person will be allowed to go near water bodies until water level recedes. In case of emergency people were asked to contact in toll free number-1077 or in 9401624141, 03842-239249.

It needs mention here that river Barak crossed danger level at Annapurna Ghat yesterday midnight. The danger level at Annapurna Ghat is 19.83. At 8 PM on Saturday, the water level at Annapurna Ghat was 20.28 meters and was flowing 0.45 meters above the danger level. As per reports, water level will rise further.
