বনধে সাড়া নেই বরাকে, লালায় রেল অবরোধের চেষ্টা
Bandh got no response in Barak Valley

২৩ অক্টোবরঃ বনধে সাড়া মেলেনি বরাক উপত্যকায়। সর্বত্র দোকান-পাট খোলা। অফিস-আদালত চলছে যথারীতি। চলছে যানবাহন। কোথাও কোনও অপ্রীতিকর ঘটনার খবর নেই। নেই পিকেটিংও। হাইলাকান্দি জেলার মোহাম্মদপুর স্টেশনে কৃষক মুক্তি সংগ্রাম সমিতির একদল কর্মী রেল অবরোধের চেষ্টা করে। পুলিশ তাদের ১৩জনকে গ্রেফতার করে নিয়ে যায়। ভোর সাড়ে ৬টার এই ঘটনায় ভৈরবী-শিলচর ট্রেন আধঘণ্টা লালা স্টেশনে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিল।

হাইলাকান্দি জেলার দুয়েক জায়গায় সকালে টায়ার পুড়িয়ে রাস্তা আটকানো হয়। কিন্তু পুলিশ গিয়ে সবাইকে লাঠি উঁচিয়ে তাড়িয়ে দেয়। শিলচরের মধুরা পয়েন্টে খিলঞ্জিয়া জন সুরক্ষা কমিটি রাস্তায় দাঁড়িয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি ও মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সর্বানন্দ সোনোয়ালের কুশপুতুল দাহ করে। ১২ ঘণ্টার বনধ হলেও কুশপুতুল পুড়িয়ে দ্রুত তারা স্থান ত্যাগ করেন।

অসম প্রদেশ কংগ্রেস কমিটি বাঙালি বিরোধী বনধকে সমর্থন করলেও স্থানীয় নেতৃত্ব নীরব থাকারই রাস্তা বেছে নেয়। সাংসদ সু্স্মিতা দেব অবশ্য খোলামেলা বলেন, দল যে অবস্থানই নিক, আমি জনগণের পাশে রয়েছি। বরাকের মানুষ বনধের বিরোধিতা করছে, ফলে আমার এই বনধ সমর্থনের প্রশ্ন ওঠে না।

October23: 12-hour Assam bandh called by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) – Asom Jatiyadabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP)- All Assam minority Students union (AMMSU) and 39 other organizations on Tuesday received no response in Barak Valley. The bandh was called as a mark of protest against the BJP’s decision to go ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Office, banks, court, business establishments functioned as on normal days. Vehicles were also seen to ply on the roads as usual. A small group of people belonging to Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity tried to disrupt rail services at Muhammadpur station in Hailakandi. But police foiled this attempt and arrested 13 of them. The incident occurred at 6.30 in the morning. As a result, the Bhairavi-Silchar train was halted for half an hour at Lala station.

 

In two or three locations at Hailakandi district, bandh supporters burnt tyres and tried to block the road. But when police came charging towards them, they fled away from the spot. At Madhura point in Silchar, the Khilanjiya Jana Surakhha Committee burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. However, after burning the effigy, they left the spot at once.

Though Assam Pradesh Congress committee supported the bandh called against the Bengalis, but the district Congress committees decided to remain silent and showed no activity. MP Susmita Dev said that whatever decisions her party may take but she will always be by the side of the public. She expressed the view that when the people of the valley are against this bandh, then there arises no question on her part to support it.
