Baba Ramdev’s comment ‘Women look good even without clothes’ sparks nationwide protest
way2barak, Nov.26: A comment by Baba Ramdev is at the center of new controversy. Speaking at a yoga camp in Thane, he said, “Women look good in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and in my view, they look good even if they don’t wear anything like me.”
Baba Ramdev was on the stage in presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son and Thane MP Shrikant Shinde, and Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, among other VIPs.
Taking a serious note of Ramdev’s controversial statement, the Maharashtra State Women Commission’s chairperson Rupali Chakankar on Saturday served a notice to the latter asking him to clarify his stand in three days. The Yoga guru’s comment was also condemned by Opposition parties in Maharashtra and other parts of the country.
Baba Ramdev was conversing with women attending the camp who had brought their yoga attires and saris. Many women were unable to change for the interaction which started soon after the Yoga training, and attended it in their Yoga attires only. Observing that many women had been unable to change into their saris, Ramdev said it wasn’t a problem and they could do so after going home. Observing this, Ramdev said that there was no problem if they had no time to switch to saris and they could do it after going home, and then made his remark — termed as “sexist” in some quarters.
