Awareness programme on child trafficking held at Borjalenga

Dec. 19: An awareness programme on ‘Child Trafficking’ was organised by the District Child Protection unit of Barak Valley Welfare Development Society (an NGO) in association with Cachar District administration at Borjalenga on Saturday. The awareness programme was graced by Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Fisheries, Excise, Environment & Forest, Govt of Assam.

The main focus of the programme was to discuss issues concerning child trafficking and the ways to combat this menace. On behalf of Project ‘Ujjawala’, the ‘Barak Valley Welfare Development Society (NGO) was represented by Puja Das (Project Director, Ujjawala) & Sudipta Das Gupta (Social Worker, Ujjawala). Both of them highlighted the trafficking scenario in Barak Valley by citing statistics.

Others who graced the occasion are Assistant Commissioner Mariya Tanim, District Child Protection Officer Cachar Mrinal Saikia, Borjalenga Goan Panchayat members, Borjalenga Block Development officers and staff.
