Avoid drinking, driving & speeding, celebrate an accident free Bhogali Bihu: CM Assam

Jan.13: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday (the day of Uruka) urged upon the people of the state to “avoid drinking and driving and speeding. Celebrate an accident-free Bhogali Bihu with your family.” He further stated that a fine of Rs. 10,000 along with an imprisonment of 6 months will be imposed,if anyone is found to drink and drive during the festivities of Bihu. Apart from this, the driving licence of such erring drivers will be cancelled at least for a period of 3 months.

Earlier,in view of the rampant drink and drive cases & the related casualties, especially during festive seasons, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma directed upon the police department to take immediate action. The success of such a move was also appreciated by the people of the state.

Assam Police informed that such moves would not be restricted only for a day. They would rather continue such drives throughout the year. Taking to its twitter handle, Assam Police wrote, “Our focus on Road Safety was not just for a single day. As envisioned by the Hon’ CM @himantabiswa, it will continue all 365 days of the year. Drinking & driving has devastating effects on society. Act with responsibility.”
